This past weekend, the Brandeis volleyball team suffered three lossess at the Connecticut College/U.S. Coast Guard Invitational held in New London, CT. Though the Judges fought hard and did not give way any easy points to their opponents, they just were not able to ultimately pull off a win.

The Brandeis women’s soccer team won two games this week, coming back from their loss to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. On Sept. 4, in their home opener, Brandeis shutout Bridgewater State University by a score of 3–0. This brought the Judges’ season record to 1–1. They have yet to play any games against their University Athletic Association rivals.

The Brandeis men’s soccer team won two exciting and close games this past week. On Sept. 4, Brandeis played the Clark University Cougars at Granger Field in Worcester, MA and won by a score of 2–1. This brought the Judges to a season score of 2–1.

Two summers ago, people talked about how the Golden State Warriors would destroy everyone else with their five all-stars lineup and ultimately win another National Basketball Association championship. However, the Warriors ended up saying goodbye to their three-peat and losing player Kevin Durant. With the fall of the king came one of the most chaotic summers in the past few years and now every team with any kind of asset wants to shuffle their cards and join the battleground. Here are some teams from each of the conferences that I will keep an eye on throughout the next NBA season.

The Brandeis women’s volleyball team began their season in matches on Friday against three non-University Athletic Association teams. This season brings the fresh talent of three rookies who have the potential to contribute to the success of the program, though they are currently off to a mixed start of one win and two losses. Heading into their next matchup against DeSales University on Friday, the team’s goal is to break their new two-game losing streak.

As classes and a new academic year began, soccer, too, was in the air. The Brandeis men’s soccer team began their season with a split of their first two games — they won their first match on opening day against Roger Williams University, but suffered a loss that day against Washington and Lee University. The two games were hard fought and close throughout, with each game being decided by a single goal.

With recent graduates such as Emily Bryson ’19 — a nine-time All-American and four-time national champion — as well as the rest of last year’s seniors moving on from Brandeis, this year’s team has big shoes to fill. However, this past Friday’s meet at the Wellesley Invitational saw the start of a promising 2019 season for both the Brandeis men’s and women’s cross country teams, proving that the team still possesses more than enough talent to have an amazing season. At their first meet of the season, the Brandeis Judges competed against schools such as Wentworth Institute of Technology, Regis College, Lasell College and Wellesley College.

During the 2019 preseason, the Brandeis women's soccer team remained on their home campus. They participated in many local team bonding activities, such as Coach Denise Dallamora’s barbeques and movie nights. This year’s captains are seniors Katie Hayes, Amanda Fernbach, Sierra Dana and Kerin Miller.

The Brandeis men’s tennis team has played six games since the beginning of April. Starting on April 6, the Judges have since played Bowdoin University, New York University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Case Western Reserve University, Chicago University and Emory University.

The Brandeis baseball team has participated in three games this month, against Bridgewater State, Eastern Connecticut State University and University of Massachusetts Boston respectively. So far this season, the team played 37 games overall, with 16 in the conference. They had 1197 at bats, 247 runs and 339 hits.

This year the team had a strong season, ending a game just one point from being able to attend nationals. They have definitely continued to grow stronger as a team. At the beginning of next season, the team will sit down and discuss their goals for the next season.

When thinking about Quidditch, many people think about Harry Potter. Originally based loosely off of the book and movie series, this game has become an intense sport on many college campuses. This past weekend, the Brandeis Quidditch team brought 15 players to attend the national US Quidditch Cup 12 in Texas.

Like a phoenix rising from the ashes, Tiger Woods has returned to golfing preeminence by winning the 2019 Masters Tournament at Augusta National Golf Club in Augusta, Georgia, as reported in an April 2019 CBS Sports article. Although this is the fifth Masters championship in Woods’s career, it is his first since 2005. Although Woods has won 15 major tournaments in his career, this is his first major tournament victory since just over ten years ago in 2008.

The Brandeis baseball team inched even closer to a 0.500 overall win-loss record after earning three solid victories this week. The Judges are now 12–13 for the season and gaining momentum as they head into the final 13 games of this season. Among the final set of games, eight will be against University Athletic Conference foes New York University and Case Western Reserve University, when the Judges will have a great opportunity to improve their conference record, currently 0–8.

This past Saturday, the Judges,along with six other colleges, traveledto western Massachusetts to take part in the Amherst Spring Fling. This week saw the continuation of underclassman dominating the rankings, with a few seniors and juniors placing here and there. Thewomen’s track and field team placed fifth overall with 30 points, justone point ahead of Mount Holyoke College, and the men’s team came in third with 54 points.
