This season, the fencing team has had many fierce competitors, and the Judges have held their own against them all. So far, the team has been to the Northeast All-Collegiate Invitational in Northampton, Massachusetts, the Northeast Conference Meet in Cambridge, Massachusetts, and the Brandeis Invitational. The team has led a successful season and conquered many of their opponents.
The Judges are pressing forward this season and have played against some very talented competition. Saturday, the Judges’ record improved to 3–3 after a very impressive game where they conquered the Johnson & Wales University Wildcats. Although the Judges have played several games since the last issue of the Justice, this article will focus on this game because of all of the action that took place.The final score was a notable 77–60 victory for Brandeis.
The Brandeis men’s and women’s fencing teams hosted the annual meet on campus at the Brandeis Invitational. They picked up a combined two wins in ten matches among the stiff competition. Both victories belonged to the men’s team. They were victorious 17–10 in their match against Cornell and 16–11 in their game against Incarnate Word. The team lost to St John’s University 19–8.
The men’s basketball team has had a red-hot start to their season so far. They are currently 5–1 and have been riding a four-game winning streak — including three wins in a row — since the last issue. Here is how those three games went for the team.
We are approaching the home stretch of the National Football League season, and the final four weeks of the season will have four must-see games. These games include teams like the Los Angeles Rams, the Chicago Bears, the New England Patriots, the Pittsburgh Steelers, the Los Angeles Chargers, Seattle Seahawks and the Minnesota Vikings.
The Brandeis swimming and diving team participated in the Gompei Invitational at Worcester Polytechnic Institute, beginning Friday, Nov. 30.
Over the years, Brandeis players and coaches have gone on to, or come from, the world of professional sports. Many of those players and coaches were involved in basketball specifically. The Judges have had many great coaches over the years that have helped the team reach success in both the University Athletic Association and beyond, including three former Boston Celtics players who came to campus afterward to become coaches for the Judges.
The women’s basketball team has started off their season with one win and one loss, creating an overall record of 1–1 with no games yet in the University Athletic Association. Between the rookies and the returning players, the team brings a large amount of talent to the court, making the prospects of this season strong.
As of Sunday evening, the men’s basketball team had won two out of the first three games of the 2018-19 season. The game on the evening of Monday, Nov. 19 will be reported on in the next issue of the Justice, but the final score and a summary of the game’s action are available on the University’s Athletics website as well.
The Brandeis women’s fencing team has participated in two meets so far in their 2018-19 season. Their first meet took place in Northampton, Massachusetts and occurred on Oct. 25. The Judges’ second meet was this past Saturday at Massachusetts Institute of Technology. The next stop for the women is the Brandeis Invitational on Dec.2.
So far this season, Brandeis men’s fencing team hashad two meets. The first meet occurred on Oct. 28 in Northampton, Massachusetts. Next up, the Judges will compete in the Brandeis Invitational on Dec. 2 and in the Western Invitational on Jan. 13 in Colordo Springs.
The Brandeis men’s and women’s swim and dive teams dropped a head-to-head match against crosstown rival Bentley University. The Falcon men edged the Judges by a score of 172–122, while the Brandeis women won 208–80. The Brandeis men now stand at 2–4 on the season, while the women are 2–6. Bentley remains undefeated, improving to 4–0 for the men and 5–0 for the women.
The Boston Red Sox took home their ninth championship as the Major League Baseball postseason comes to a close. The baseball community is left with a parting gift in the form of the annual award announcements, recognizing the top rookie, pitcher and overall player in the American and National Leagues. Every winner, by season’s end, had cemented his case as the favorite to take home the hardware. So, without further ado, here are this year’s award winners:
The Brandeis women’s cross country team had a historic performance at the NCAA Division III Cross Country Championships at Lake Breeze Golf Course in Oshkosh, Wisconsin. With a total of 277 points, the team finished an astounding sixth place overall, led, as usual, by senior Emily Bryson ’19 with a fifth-place finish in the race. Bryson was in fifth place throughout the entire race, running the six-kilometer course with a time of 21:08.3. This time was two seconds faster than her personal record at the NCAA nationals meet and the second fastest of her decorated NCAA career. Her finish was also a fifteen-place improvement from her previous best nationals finish, which came just last year.
The Brandeis University swimming and diving team has had a great season so far. For the past month and a half, they have been travelling and competing against teams from across the country and have shined as a team. Here is how their season has gone so far.
Professional basketball has raged on in the season, and each conference has had its share of action.
On Saturday, the season officially ended for the women’s soccer team, as the Judges were defeated by Farmingdale State College in the first round of the NCAA Division III tournament. With this close to their season, the 19th-ranked Judges achieved a season record 12–5, and the 25th-ranked Rams improved to 17–3–3 and went on to to play at the College of New Jersey on Sunday, according to the Brandeis Athletics website. Ultimately, the results of this game came down to one shot from the Rams and led to a score of 1–0 for the game that took place at the College of New Jersey.
This season, the men’s basketball team started the season on Nov. 3, playing the University of Saint Joseph. Although this game ended in a loss of 63–76 for the team, the Judges have a long season to come. The squad came back in the second game, conquering the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth with a score of 63–56. The Judges are 1–1 for the season so far.
AFC North: Despite a lot of drama surrounding two of the team’s biggest offensive stars, the Steelers are on top of the American Football Conference North Division and their offense has been nothing but potent. Despite Le'veon Bell holding out, rookie running back James Conner has been electric, and the offense hasn’t skipped a beat. Big Ben is playing with veteran prowess, and it's hard to look bad when you’re throwing to Antonio Brown and JuJu Smith-Schuster most of the time. The Baltimore Ravens and Cincinnati Bengals have shown promise, but both teams are riddled with inconsistency. While the Bengals currently hold the better record, the Ravens have a higher ceiling and would be a more dangerous team in the playoffs.
