Council addresses off-campus student behavior

Waltham city councilors discussed the recent concerns about student behavior off campus, as well as Brandeis' recent request for a lodging license for the Ridgewood Residence Halls, in the License and Franchising Committee meeting last night, according to Waltham City Council Vice President Paul Brasco.The request for the Ridgewood lodging license was deemed controversial at last week's City Council meeting.


Program working to cut energy use

Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Peter French's Energy Savings Program to reduce energy usage on campus and minimize projected spending is now in its second phase, according to Vice President of Campus Operations Mark Collins."The goal of the energy savings program is simply to make every effort to minimize campus energy consumption using all the tools available, such as energy management systems, energy efficient equipment, and energy conserving habits by students, faculty, and staff," Collins wrote in an Aug.


Field repairs raise concern

The practice field located next to the commuter rail is now being used as a parking lot for construction vehicles, which has caused an irreversible loss of about $19,000 that was spent to irrigate the field over the summer, according to Jacob Bockelmann '09, a board member of the Club Sports Council.Bockelmann said that last year the Club Sports Council decided to use rollover Student Activities Fee funds allocated to the Club Sports Council by the Finance Board to renovate the practice field next to the train station that club sports has used for practice for years.Director of Athletics Sheryl Sousa said in an e-mail to the Justice, "At the end of last semester, when there was funding remaining in the Club Sports budget, the Club Sports Council and The [F-Board] agreed to reinvest the funds into the Club Sports Program.


First Brandeis farmers market brings local fare to community

Brandeis and Waltham community members who attended the first of three farmers markets in the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center parking lot last Sunday said they planned to return for the next farmers market but hoped to see a larger selection of fresh produce and other goods.According to Mariah Rich '10, who, along with Nicole Starman '10 and Samantha Lenard '10, is responsible for creating, organizing and coordinating this student-led initiative, "The event was extraordinary.


Library rearranged for better access

Library and Technology Services has made several logistical changes to the location and improvement of certain services offered in the Goldfarb and Farber libraries, Assistant Director for Resource Sharing Evan Simpson said.Among these changes was the relocation of the writing center to Goldfarb 1.


Students bring farmers market to campus

The first of three farmers markets planned for this semester will take place at Brandeis this Sunday in order to support local farmers and provide more healthful choices for students.The idea for bringing a farmers market to Brandeis originated as a project in Prof.
