We at justArts would like to a take a moment to reflect and remember the incredible lives and careers of Johnny Cash and John Ritter upon the news of their passing. Both of these men have made a huge impact on both our lives and on the world of the arts, and they will be deeply and forever missed.Johnny Cash, the Man in Black, may be the most influential American artist of all time. With a career spanning half a century, he revolutionized American music in more ways than we could ever realize. His music reflected the struggle of his life, as he lost his way in a sea of depression and drugs, and found his path back to happiness with a beloved wife and the convictions of his faith. Musically, he has remained more open-minded than almost any artist from any era; he has covered songs from such unlikely bands as Depeche Mode and Nine Inch Nails, simply because he respected and appreciated their style and message. But Cash will always be remembered for his heartbreakingly honest songs and endearing personality. As a man so honest, so open, and so loving after all his struggles, he will remain an icon of Americana for many years to come. While his death does not come as a surprise, as his health took a turn for the worst after the death of his wife, June Carter Cash only four months ago, he will be deeply and sorely missed by all of us.

John Ritter was an actor, a funny-man, a character in every sense of the word. From his starring role in "Three's Company" to his dozens upon dozens of performances on the theatrical stage, he is one of the most underappreciated actors of our time. No matter how small the role, Ritter put everything he had into his performance, and the love he gave to his audience was returned to him tenfold. His sudden and unexpected passing is both a shock and a terrible reminder of how fleeting life can be. He was taping for his show "8 Rules for Dating my Teenage Daughter" when he collapsed, and died not long afterwards. Ritter's contribution to the world of theater will not soon be forgotten, and he will be missed by us all.

The arts world has taken a blow in these last few days with the loss of such talents. But their memories will live on to inspire countless other musicians and actors to follow in their footsteps. We know they are happy, wherever they are, and we extend our love, our best wishes and deepest condolences to their families.
