Truth be told, Brandeis will never be confused with a collegiate sports fans' paradise. Division II Bball coach fired for racial epithetWestern New Mexico University men's basketball coach Joe Mondragon was fired Monday after players alleged he directed bigoted remarks towards six black players.Following an 11-poin t loss at Adams State last Monday, players alleged that Mondragon ordered all non-black players off the team bus.


New Hall of Fame class announced

The 2002-03 Brandeis University Athletics Hall of Fame class will include seven athletes as well as a women's basketball team that Athletic Director Jeff Cohen calls a group of "true pioneers."The inductees, who will be honored at the Westin Hotel in Waltham on April 5, are men's soccer player Jim Belanger, baseball star Bob Boutin, three-sport standout Chris Corsac, cross country runner Dennis Donoghue, women's fencer Kristen Foellmer, men's basketball player Andre James, baseball skipper Tom O'Connell and the undefeated 1955-56 women's basketball team.Belanger, a two-time soccer captain in the late 1970's, led the Judges to two NCAA tournament appearances from his midfield position.

Men's Bball winless on road trip.The Brandeis men's basketball squad dropped four consecutive games on a road swing that culminated with a three-point loss to Carnegie Mellon.


Women's rugby wins huge

Coming off a difficult stretch of competition that included losses to Division II stalwarts College of the Holy Cross and the University of Scranton, the Brandeis Women's Rugby club rebounded in stellar fashion this past weekend.
