Nicole Karlebach chosen as senior graduation speaker

Nicole Karlebach '04 has been named the Commencement Speaker for this year's graduation. As part of her senior address, Karlebach plans to discuss issues of activism on campus."I felt like throughout my four years at Brandeis I'd done a lot of advocacy for my class," Karlebach said.


Hiatt director leaves abruptly

Meryl Glatt-Rader, the director of the Hiatt Career Center, resigned last week in a mutual agreement with the University, making her the third employee to suddenly leave Brandeis this semester.


Hillel upset over debating divestment

BBSO members upset over speaker

A keynote address to mark the commencement of Black History Month was received with some disappointment by members of the Brandeis Black Student Organization (BBSO), who gathered with many others on Thursday evening in the Napoli Trophy Room of the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center.David Muhammad, a registered member of the Nation of Islam delivered a 30-minute speech, entitled "How great is our African history?" However, some BBSO members disagreed with Muhammad's message, adding that it did not completely reflect the month's theme, "Blackness: Truth unto its innermost parts," or the opinions of the entire club."We want to let everyone know the views expressed by him were not ours," BBSO's Director of Political Affairs Darnisa Amante '06 said.Muhammad, traveling from New York City, introduced his lecture by describing the African-American's place in modern day life."We are living in a nation and society that has never really appreciated the African man and African woman," Muhammad said.


Hate icon appears in North Quad

In a campus-wide e-mail released Monday, Assistant Dean of Student Life Rev. Nathaniel Mays condemned an act of vandalism that defaced the outside of the North Quad AB Lounge with a swastika.


UJ hears case over meaning of 'abstain'

The Union Judiciary (UJ) will rule by the end of the week on whether or not abstentions should count as a vote and be reflected in the total vote count or count as non-voting after hearing arguments from both sides Sunday in Shapiro Art Gallery.
