Positions within the Senate have changed as Peter Williams '05 resigned his post as The Village Senator Nov. 9, and Ezra Stark '06 stepped up to become the new Rosenthal Senator last Tuesday, replacing Dan Passner '06 who resigned Oct. 29.Williams explained that his resignation was due to personal reasons.

"I was unable to put the spirit and time into being a senator that I saw my fellow senators doing," Williams says. "I determined that the position of Village Quad Senator would be better filled by someone who could dedicate more time to the job than I could."

When asked what were some of the most important and valuable experiences he gained while working on the Senate, Williams said, "I can't think of any."

Williams encourages those interested to consider the commitment involved for anybody who wishes to fill the position.

"Make sure you want to do it; being a good senator takes a lot more effort than you would think," Williams said.

Stark, aware of the sort of dedication required of a senator, said he is excited to begin his new role in the student government now that he has less of a workload than earlier in the semester.

"I've always been interested in Student Union affairs," Stark said. "When the elections were being held at the beginning of the year I already had too much on my plate to consider running. However, when this special election came up, I had lessened my load and felt that this was a great opportunity for me to get involved."

The first round of elections occurred Nov. 5 to 6, and the second round was Nov. 9 to 10. The results were announced on Nov. 10.

"I decided to run for Rosenthal Senator because I wanted to make a difference in the community," Stark said. "Not only do I want to help strengthen the Brandeis community as a whole, but to further strengthen the Rosenthal community."

Stark already has several ideas for his term to better the Brandeis community.

"I'm a firm believer in the value of social events," Stark said. "I believe that any and all objectives can be achieved through them-whether to have fun or to create social awareness. In a social setting people are less guarded. They leave their prejudices and presuppositions at the door. This is the kind of environment where one can successfully attempt to address prevalent issues

Eager to assume his new position, Stark is enthusiastic about the job ahead.

"I'm looking forward to working with the other senators," Stark said. "I hope to meet new people and build meaningful relationships with students and administrators."

In addition, Class of 2004 Senator Mark Brescia '04, resigned Sunday at the Senate meeting.
