Court Jester: A daunting journalistic journey

One rule became immediately clear while working on my first article as a reporter: Athletes aren't the only ones sweating at sporting events.Being a sportswriter requires its own rigorous training and split-second decision making, and I will never forget the fateful day this summer when my lack of verbal endurance caused me to suffer a sudden-death loss.I worked for my hometown paper this summer reporting on the Brooklyn Cyclones baseball team, a Single-A affiliate of the New York Mets, and had the privilege of covering one of the longest games in professional baseball history: a grueling 26-inning marathon between the Cyclones and the Oneonta Tigers that lasted 6 hours and 40 minutes (for those keeping track, the longest professional baseball game of all-time was a 33-inning affair between the Pawtucket Red Sox and Rochester Red Wings in 1981.) I was sitting in the cozy press box the whole time, seemingly not exerting myself at all-but I was drained.

Track Interview: Danny Glass

Danny Glass '07 battled through severe allergies on his way to finishing 20th of 25 runners in the 5,000-meter run during Friday's ECAC championships at Springfield College, but that is not the biggest obstacle he usually faces on the track.

Running on empty

On a year's worth of tired legs, the men's and women's track teams limped to the season's finish line at the ECAC Championships at Springfield College on Friday.

Commentary: Texas votes 'No' to Bush in '06

In the months leading up to this weekend's NFL draft, it was a forgone conclusion that the words, "With the first pick in the 2006 NFL draft, the Houston Texans select-" would inevitably be followed by "Reggie Bush, running back, University of Southern California." After all, Bush had just electrified the nation with a 2005 Heisman campaign in which he averaged nearly nine yards per carry on the ground.

Baseball: Judges rebound from four-game skid

The baseball team will only go as far as its best pitchers can carry it. Judges' ace Tim Dunphy '06 proved that much is true in Sunday's doubleheader sweep of Trinity College, shutting out the Bantams 2-0 in the first game and then recording his first career save in the team's 4-1 afternoon victory.

Baseball: Sweet relief and a three-game streak

The baseball team's week began and ended with the bullpen. After allowing a three-run ninth inning in Tuesday's 5-4 home loss to Wheaton College, the Judges breathed a sigh of relief on Sunday when their bullpen hung on in the ninth inning to give the Judges a 12-9 victory at the University of Massachusetts at Dartmouth.
