Science Posse to expand with grant

The Howard Hughes Medical Institute awarded Prof. Irving Epstein (CHEM) a $600,000 grant to broaden the Science Posse program, a scholarship program that encourages New York City high-school students to pursue the sciences in college, according to a May 20 University press release.


New online program to launch

--The Rabb School of Continuing Studies will launch a new online master's degree program this September in Health and Medical Informatics designed to train students for information technology jobs in the health care industry, according to an April 20 BrandeisNOW article.According to the article, the need for technology-trained individuals in the health care industry will increase in the coming years because the federal government is providing financial incentives for hospitals to more fully integrate digital technology into their health services by next year.The program's website explains that students will be trained to use technology to improve the "quality, safety, efficiency and access of healthcare," and that students in the program participate in the "development, implementation, evaluation and management of information technology solutions to improve patient care.""There's been a lot of talk about health care and health care initiatives, and this is one of the focuses: for doctors and patients to be able to share information," program director Prof.


Midyear options expanded

Beginning in the fall of 2014, all midyear students will have the option to spend their fall semester studying abroad in London through Brandeis and Arcadia University, a university outside of Philadelphia with a far-reaching study abroad department.


Union polls open for elections

Polls open today for Student Union elections. The posts of president, vice president, treasurer, secretary, and junior representative to the Board of Trustees are all open for election.


Resource review committee reports

On March 9, the Administrative Resource Review Committee released its final report, the results of months of the committee's efforts to make Brandeis more economically efficient through "[examining] staffing levels, compensation and trends" as well as "prospectively [assessing] possibilities for efficiencies and savings going forward," identifying "an additional [added to previous administrative cuts] $1.49 million-$2.74 million in savings, with some achievable starting in 2011 and others achievable, as with ongoing academic initiatives, over a longer time period through 2015," according to the report.Created by University President Jehuda Reinharz on Oct.
