Election overseers resign

Two Student Union election commissioners resigned Thursday night, saying they could not remain objective after one presidential candidate discussed publically what they said was their idea for bringing more speakers to campus during a candidate forum last Thursday.Albert Cahn '07, senior representative to the Board of Trustees and Jason Brodsky '07, director of academic affairs, left their posts on the Elections Commission shortly after the candidate, Senator at Large Shreeya Sinha '09, raised the possibility of endowing a fund to pay for speakers.She made the comment at the Justice's sponsored candidate's forum.


BREAKING NEWS: Sinha sweeps presidential election

Shreeya Sinha '09, senator at large, won the Student Union presidency in a sweeping landslide, receiving more votes than her competitors combined.As she received more than 50 percent in the first round, the race for president didn't require a final round."It hasn't sunk in yet that I'm president," Sinha said.


Union committee aims to improve weight room

Finkelstein visit loses club support

Although it seemed likely last week that controversial Middle East scholar Norman Finkelstein would speak on campus next month, his visit is up in the air now after two campus groups withdrew their support.


Union, administration discuss alcohol policy draft

As part of their efforts to reform the campus alcohol policy, Student Union officials have been meeting with administrators to assuage concerns over a recent draft proposal penned by the Union, including that it may facilitate underage drinking.


Mideast delegation seeks funding

The student-faculty group organizing a visit to the Palestinian territories this July hopes to raise at least $100,000 to fund the trip.The group, named the Independent Delegation from Brandeis to Palestine and Israel (IDBPI), was organized in response to a challenge to visit the territories made by former President Jimmy Carter during his speech last month.


Union proposes alcohol policy changes

Student Union officials have drafted a new alcohol policy, after saying for over a year that the current University policy makes it too difficult to serve alcohol at campuswide parties, hindering social life.The proposed policy changes, which Union officials say would ease the costly burden of serving alcohol at campus events, cannot be enacted without administrative approval.
