Thanks for sending in this week’s take, Aiden. I would like to preface this by saying that I am not a New York Knicks fan, so when I say that I 100% agree with Aiden’s take, I say so without bias. However, I have to be honest statistically, I don’t have much to support this argument. While the Knicks did win the championship, they did so against all expectations and that is the singular reason I believe they can do it again. Every single media outlet called the Knicks fake contenders and said that Jalen Brunson couldn’t get it done. Now, after Brunson dropped 45 points to close out the finals, sports commentators have turned to the most outlandish excuses to try and explain away the Knicks’ phenomenal performance. The wonderful thing about sports commentators is that if they’re proven wrong, instead of admitting fault, they will double down and make up excuses. I’ve heard “championships are participation trophies” and “the Spurs are the dumbest team of all time” and egregiously, Becky Hammon doubled down on her take that Brunson would not be able to take a team to a championship even after he just did it. Do I think the Knicks can win? No, I think they’re being pushed to win by thousands of dissenters across the sports world.
