Program proposed to connect students and professors
Students and Professors Interacting Now (SPIN) is a Senate proposal designed to build bonds within the community and is to take place next year.Executive Senator Erica Lemansky '05 and Union Treasurer Andrei Khots '05 wrote the proposal to restart the program, which will include an entire week of events of interaction between students and faculty.
"The idea is to strengthen the community by providing opportunities to faculty, students, and administration to interact and build relationships," Lemansky said.
Programs would include receptions and one-on-one dinners. The goal is to have first-years and sophomores work with a professor whom they'd like to be their advisor, juniors with their advisor or a professor in their concentration and seniors with a professor who have made an impact on them.
"What we want to happen is for a student to be able to go lunch at Sherman, the Stein or the Faculty Club and have the entire meal be covered by the school. The student would have a ticket and they would just present it to the cashier after their meal," Khots said.
The decision to postpone the event until next semester derived from conflicts in scheduling.
"We want it to be at a time when we it can publicized to faculty and not in a clump of activities. The goal is to make it an annual thing," Lemansky said regarding the delay.
Though the full program will not occur this year, there are plans in the works for a "Take Your Professor to Lunch" event, which will serve as the teaser for the real program next semester.
