A Cappella Fest shows 'Deis' musical diversity

Eight a cappella ensembles kicked off the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Arts last Wednesday at the A Cappella Fest to benefit the SAMFund, a charity founded by two Brandeis alumnae that assists young cancer survivors.The show opened with Rather Be Giraffes, who sang three songs off their new album, followed by show-tune ensemble Proscenium and gospel group Voices of Soul.The highlight of the first act, however, was GOLF (Gentlemen Only, Ladies Forbidden), the newest addition to Brandeis' a cappella scene.


Adagio dancers prove they're 'All Stars'

Levin Ballroom seemed like New York City Center Thursday evening as the Adagio Dance Company presente a troupe of 70 performers in Adagio All Stars, their spring show.Unlike most dance concerts, which often showcase two or three hours of dancing but include only one or two pieces, Adagio's show-led by choreographers Valerie Scott '06, Wendi Safran '07, Serena Gober '07 and Abby Wolf '05, among others-featured 18 pieces ranging in style from modern to tap.


Miller performs, speaks about modern gay issues

Prof. Tim Miller, a professor of acting at the University of California - Los Angeles, gave a lecture/performance to a packed house in Shapiro Theater Last Monday that challenged students' conceptions of life as a gay man and raised awareness of the main injustices that homosexuals currently face.


Mattress fire leads to Rosenthal evacuation

A cigarette ash set a mattress ablaze in a student's bedroom in a Rosenthal East suite Sunday night, according to Director of Public Safety Ed Callahan.The student, who spoke to the Justice under the condition of anonymity, said the fire escalated very quickly from being a small accident.


Perceived drug use surpasses actual use

Results from the school-wide drug and alcohol survey administered last semester by health educator Dawn Skop and the Department of Residence Life may prove that preconceptions about student drug use on campus are wide of the mark.The survey, which students received through their community advisers last spring, was designed to help gather information about all students' drug usage on campus in order to gain greater understanding of the issue.
