Judges get second shot to defeat Ephs

For the second straight season, the men's soccer team hosted the first two rounds of the NCAA Division III Tournament at Gordon Field. And, for the second straight season, the Judges advanced to the Round of 16 with back-to-back victories. After dominating Johnson & Wales University on Saturday by a score of 3-0, Brandeis beat Roger Williams University 1-0 on Sunday night. While Saturday's victory came rather easily, head coach Michael Coven was happy with the team's performance on Sunday. "I think we dominated play," he said.

Bruins dispatch of visiting Florida Panthers in weekend contest using third period barrage of goals

What started out as a frustrating game against the Florida Panthers ended in emphatic triumph for the Boston Bruins last Thursday night in TD Garden. Following a scoreless first period, Boston's offense built a 1-0 advantage as center David Krejci scored a highlight-reel goal with seven minutes, 17 seconds left in the second period. Yet, while the middle interval ended with the Bruins clinging to a slim 1-0 lead, the Boston offense exploded for three more goals in the third period to seal a commanding 4-1 victory. "[Having a strong offense] makes it easier on the defense," goalkeeper Tuukka Rask said of the Bruins' offense.

Bad Grandpa' serves up slapstick humor

As a long-time Jackass enthusiast, I had been looking forward to the Oct. 25 release of Jackass Presents: Bad Grandpa, the latest in the Jackass series, which is known for physical comedy, crude humor and spontaneity.

Judges honor seniors amid pair of defeats

With next weekend's University Athletic Association Championships on the horizon, the volleyball team hoped to secure some momentum-boosting wins on their home court this past Saturday. A pair of tough losses to Connecticut College and Endicott College on Senior Day, by 3-2 and 3-0 margins respectively, overshadowed a 3-1 win at Lasell College earlier in the week, leaving the Judges with a 9-22 record heading into the UAA competition. "To be honest, even in the sets we lost, overall I thought our defensive effort was impressive," said head coach Michelle Kim, who was able to take a number of positive notes from the defeats. "We touched a lot of balls and kept them alive [when they looked like they were going out of play]. We wouldn't have won those points unless we were aggressive on defense.

Judges earn third place at UAA meet

Despite putting together solid performances all season, the No. 33 women's cross-country team has flown under the radar. The Judges may finally be getting their due after a third place finish at the University Athletic Association Championships this past Saturday. Led by a third-place finish from Amelia Lundkvist '14, who earned First Team All-UAA Honors, the team achieved its best finish since 2002.

Women drop contest in heartbreaking fashion

With two minutes left in the second overtime in Thursday's game at the University of Massachusetts Boston, the women's soccer team was attacking their opponents' end in hopes of finding a winner. However, this time, fortune was cruel to the Judges.

Judges downed on the road by UAA opponents

When men's soccer forward Evan Jastremski '17 scored the first goal of Sunday's University Athletic Association game against Emory University after just 21 seconds, it looked like the Judges were on their way to avenging Friday's overtime loss to Carnegie Mellon University. However, the team gave up two goals in the first half and a third in the second, resulting in a 3-1 setback. It was the third game in five days for the Judges, as they fell 2-1 in double overtime at Carnegie after beating the Massachusetts Maritime Academy 6-3 in a home contest on Tuesday night. "We are not playing well," said head coach Michael Coven after Sunday's defeat.
