Graduate students debut nontraditional works

Art is born from past art but manages to create something new and unfamiliar. The graduate student composers at Brandeis continued this process on Saturday in the Slosberg Recital Hall with their concert "New Works for Strings," where their string compositions were performed by the Lydian String Quartet.

Bernstein Scholars play chamber music at recital

Sometimes art mimics life, and sometimes art mimics art. In the case of the Leonard Bernstein Scholars and Fellows concert this Sunday, the latter was true, in that the classical music concert resembled a musical drama. The cast of players was the talented members of the Bernstein Fellowship, a highly selective program for undergraduate chamber musicians.

Two single-sex a cappella groups unite in song

Last Friday night, students and parents crowded into Golding Auditorium to hear VoiceMale, One of Brandeis' all-male a cappella group, and Up the Octave, one of Brandeis' all-female a cappella group, in their joint concert titled "An Acapella Mixer." The idea for this concert has been on the table for months but had not occurred in recent history. "Both groups were very excited at the prospect of collaborating in some way since we are [both] single-sex ensembles," said Dena Ayzikovich '13 of Up the Octave.
