Hoot' hopes to offer better coverage

The Hoot, a new student newspaper that, according to its constitution, intends to provide the Brandeis community with "a reliable, accurate, and unbiased source of news and information" was chartered by the Union senate on Sunday.Igor Pedan '05, The Hoot's founder and a former Justice editor, said that the publication's charter is important because it promises to cover news the Justice misses."The existing newspaper has lost its focus on campus, neglects to cover issues of importance," Pedan said.


Admin. plans new arts center

With a gift of $10 million from the Safra Foundation, the University is planning to build the new Safra Center for Fine Arts near the Spingold Theater.Due to shortage of space, the studio arts program for graduates and seniors is housed in a rented, converted warehouse in Waltham.


Learning Challenges can be made a little bit easier

Somewhere on the syllabus of every course taught at Brandeis appears the same statement: "If you are a student with a documented disability on record at Brandeis University and wish to have a reasonable accommodation made for you in this class, please see me immediately." This paragraph is targeted at the more than 200 students who receive academic accommodations for mental, psychological and learning disabilities, according to Michele Rosenthal, who coordinates academic accommodations for students with disabilities.


NEJS profs. win Jewish book award

Professors Jonathan Sarna '75 and Marc Brettler '78, both of the Near Eastern and Judaic Studies department, recently received the prestigious National Jewish Book Award, which recognizes excellence in Jewish scholarship.


BTV65 makes a comeback

The University's longtime student-run television station, BTV65, began this year with a new, entirely digital broadcasting system and several new shows, according to the channel's president.


New publications to hit the stands

Two new monthly campus publications, Lies and Take the Lead!, are hitting the stands this fall, according to their respective editors. According to Jen Goldberg '05, one of two editors in chief of Lies, the publication will expose the campus to alternative music-based arts and culture.


Administration considers building parking garage

The University completed a feasibility study this summer for building a parking garage to increase available spots and accommodate first-years who wish to have cars on campus, according to Brandeis administrators."If we had a parking garage on campus, then I, nor anyone else, would have an issue with freshmen having cars on campus," said Jean Eddy, the senior vice president for Students and Enrollment.According to Associate Vice President Dan Feldman, the study evaluated X-lot and G-lot as two possible locations for three different garage models.


Serving solace in the C-store
