Univ considers utilizing wind energy

The University is currently engaged in negotiations with the city of Waltham to receive permits to erect a $50,000 meteorological tower in Sachar woods that will remain there for one to two years as part of its exploration into renewable energy sources.According to Brandeis Energy Manager Bill Bushey, data from this tower will be analyzed to see whether wind strength is sufficient to support a wind turbine on campus.


Hiatt works to improve services

The Hiatt Career Center is developing new programs and expanding old ones in order to reach out more to students and become a better resource for them, according to Hiatt Director Joseph DuPont."We want to make Hiatt more visible," said DuPont, who took over as director last August.The Hiatt Center recently developed the World-of-Work Internship program.


Club discusses faith

Approximately 35 students met to discuss questions of religion and how to attain peace at the Intercultural Center last Sunday for a program titled, "Faith: A Pillar of Life," part of Brandeis' celebration of Martin Luther King Jr.


Shifting images of liberty

The RIAA targets Brandeis students once again

The Recording Industry Institute of America sent 12 Brandeis students letters Dec. 8 charging them with illegal downloading and copyright infringement and offering them an option to pay a settlement fee before formal lawsuits are filed against them.


Segal program initiated

Former President Clinton's speech last Monday marked the first initiative of the Eli J. Segal Citizen Leadership Program, which will be composed of a lecture series and summer internships related to civic engagement for Brandeis undergraduate and Heller School students.The program is the initiative of Segal's widow, Phyllis Segal '66, whose goal is to raise a $4 million endowment.


Students express worries

The use of intimidation, the cost of campus events requiring security and the number of campus police officers that will be armed were among the concerns students raised at last Tuesday's forum on the procedures for the arming of University Police.


IBS, IBM begin academic partnership

The Brandeis International Business School will take part in a pilot run for a business- and technology-oriented video game next semester as one facet of its new partnership with the IBM Corporation, which was announced at a daylong event cohosted by IBS and IBM last Tuesday.
