GOLF: Brandeis has disappointing season opener

After finishing the first day of the Babson Invitational in Plymouth, Mass. with a disappointing score of 95, 23 strokes over par, it was clear that Charles Sacks '11 needed a stronger start on day two to shoot a better score, particularly after opening up the first day with a quadruple bogey.


FENCING: Three fence at NCAA Championships

Foil Will Friedman '09 appeared in his fourth consecutive NCAA Fencing Championship last weekend looking to match or improve upon his seventh-place finish from a year ago.That improvement did not happen as Friedman dipped to 14th place out of 24 foils, winning just 10 of his 22 bouts during the two-day tournament.


ATHLETE OF THE WEEK: Adam Austin '11

In the past, Adam Austin '11 had difficulty controlling his temper and keeping his emotions in check on the strip, but his growth over the past year as a fencer and competitor enabled him to secure a bid to last weekend's NCAA Championships.


FENCING: Three earn bids to go to Nationals

As a borderline qualifier for the upcoming NCAA National Collegiate Fencing Championships, saber Adam Austin '11 needed to finish in at least sixth place at the NCAA Northeast Regional Championships last Sunday to secure his first career bid to the NCAA Championships.
