Seventy-five students have been disconnected from the University network in the past two weeks, which marks the highest spike in intranet kick-offs since August, according to UNet Systems Administrator Rich Graves.
After the administration did not bill students an additional $12 supposedly dictated by the recent Union financial amendment to pay Senate's financial advisor, $40,000 was used from the Student Activities Fee (SAF), leaving campus organizations less money to finance their needs than last semester.Assistant Vice President for Students and Enrollment Brian Walton said the amendment - which was supposed to charge students an extra $12 for the Union's administrative assistant Loretta Shagoury - passed too late to go into effect for spring billing."There was a dispute about the amendment in mid-November," Walton said.

Recent racial tensions on campus have sparked debate concerning the purpose of the Student Union Diversity Committee (DC). While some senators believe the committee should focus only on racial tensions, others feel it should encompass all issues of diversity.Racial minority senator and co-chair of the DC Kassian Polin '05 said he is among those who oppose the committee focusing solely on racial issues."It is against every instinct in my body to act against the interests of racial minority students," Polin wrote to the DC's mailing list.
Union Secretary Danny Silverman reversed and reinstated a controversial election rule last week, according to Jenny Feinberg '07.Feinberg, currently the chair of the Project Brandeis University Spirit committee, was disqualified from the race for Class of 2007 senator last semester for violating that regulation-Article VI, Section 2 of the elections rules.Feinberg placed a link in her AOL Instant Messenger profile to the UNet election, violating the restriction on direct links to the voting site.Last week, Feinberg sent an e-mail to Silverman proposing an amendment this rule.Upon hearing her recommendation, Silverman agreed to change the rule, according to Feinberg.Feinberg said she decided to run for Class of 2007 senator again this semester after hearing this response.
