The men’s and women’s soccer teams both dropped the ball during their games against the Emory University Eagles and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets. Both teams faced the Eagles on Friday and the Yellowjackets on Sunday. The men’s record for the season is now 9–5–4 overall and 2–3–1 in the University Athletic Association. The women are 10–7 overall and 1–5 in the UAA.
On Nov. 2, the Brandeis men’s and women’s cross country teams participated in the University Athletic Association championships hosted by Carnegie Mellon University at Schenley Park in Pittsburgh, PA. Niamh Kenney ’21 led the women’s team to a seventh-place overall finish, and for a second year in a row, Josh Lombardo ’21 led the men’s team as they finished ninth overall in the meet.
The Brandeis men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams competed at Worcester Polytechnic Institute on Nov. 1. The women’s team faced WPI, Babson College, Smith College and Simmons College, while the men faced only WPI and Babson. Though none of the teams were Brandeis’ University Athletic Association rivals, these recent meets have still been important, as both squads are gearing up for the UAA championships that will take place in February.
The Emerson College Lions defeated the Judges by a score of 3–1 in the Tri-State match on Oct. 26. Their second match against Manhattanville College was cancelled. The Judges’ starters were Marissa Borgert ’21, Emma Bartlett ’20, Emily Morrison ’23, Avery Donovan ’21, Belle Scott ’21 and Amelia Oppenheimer ’23.
The Judges’ men’s soccer team won at home on Sunday against Washington University in Saint Louis before hitting the road to beat Springfield College on Wednesday afternoon.
Continuing their strong season, the women’s soccer team won their only game of the week: an away game against the Eastern Connecticut State University Warriors on Saturday. The Judges did not just squeak out their victory either. The team scored multiple points against the Warriors, ending with a final score of 2–0. The Judges’ season is now at an overall record of 10–5 as they enter the month of November.
With the NBA season finally kicking off, I can finally not feel like a bum for only writing about the NBA in the pro sports section of this paper. As I write this on Saturday morning, there have been few games playes and I want to speak about some of the biggest surprises and letdowns of the NBA season.
The twelve outdoor tennis courts behind the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center have a new name and a new look. The new Cordish Tennis Center was funded as the result of an alumni game played by Jonathan Cordish ’90, who was nationally ranked throughout the course of his Brandeis tennis career and helped the Judges advance to the NCAA Division III National Championships in 1989. During his alumni match two years ago, a fast serve to Cordish hit a crack in the court and careened wildly the wrong way, causing Cordish to mishit his return. He commented that this bad bounce was going to cost him a lot of money — and it did.
So far this season, the men's and women's cross country teams have had three meets. At each of those meets, the men placed first, seventh and second, respectively, and the women placed second, 13th and third.

This article is going to be challenging for me to write, as I lack a political background, but it has shocked the sports world, and I have the relevant sports background.
The Judges’ men’s soccer team won three games in eight days without conceding a single goal. After concluding a four-game road trip with a record of 1–1–2 thanks to a comfortable 3–0 win at Mitchell College, Brandeis won at home against Massachusetts Institute of Technology on Tuesday and against Carnegie Mellon University on Saturday, with both games finishing 2–0.
The Brandeis women’s volleyball team has had a shaky start to their season. After beginning their season in a winning match against Westfield State University, the team went on a six-match losing streak. Finally broken by a win against Worcester State University, the team won that single game before losing three more games, two of them to University Athletic Association opponents Emory University and Carnegie Mellon University. The team then conquered the University of Rochester, another UAA opponent and then lost to Roger Williams University.
The Brandeis women’s soccer team kicked off the month of October with a split. The Judges defeated the Lesley University Lynx last Wednesday, but suffered a loss against the Carnegie Mellon Tartans on Saturday in their first University Athletic Association conference game. Continuing to compete against their UAA competitors, the Judges will next face Case Western Reserve University on Saturday. That game will be played at Oberlin College in Oberlin, Ohio.
As the leaves begin to turn brown in beautiful New England and the brisk autumn “sweater- weather” starts to roll in, baseball enthusiasts can savor the beginning of the annual playoffs of our national pastime. This year, four mighty teams reached the milestone of more than 100 wins, suggesting the playoffs will showcase a lot of great ball clubs.
