On Sept. 28,  results of the Sept. 22 Student Union elections were shared with the  student body. In total, 14 students were elected to positions available for this Fall. There were a variety of seats for  Senate this year., with three seats open for Senator at Large, one seat open for the Multicultural Senator, one seat open for the Class of 2027 Senator, two seats open for the Class of 2028 Senators, and three  seats open for the Class of 2030 Senators. Aside from the seats in the Senate, two seats were open on the Allocations Board and one seat for the Chief Judicial Officer position was available under the Executive Branch. 

Student Union Secretary Marcus Buenaflor ’29 announced the results via email. Students elected Fairooz Abida ’27 for Chief Judicial Officer under the Executive Branch. Elle Brown ’30, Judah Friedman ’30 and Jordan Medved ’28 were elected as Senators at Large, with Mariah Martinez ’29 selected as the Multicultural Senator. Benjamin Grimes was named Class of 2027 Senator and Lucas Thompson along with Luke Golin were elected to serve as Class of 2028 Senators. Finally, Julia Velasco, Trente Xian and Tyler Parshay were chosen as Class of 2030 Senators. Mariyam Ali ’30 was elected the Myra Kraft Achievers Program Senator, as well as Elena Staples ’28 and Andre Saphores ’29 as A-Board Representatives. 

Abida previously served as the Director of Health and Wellness for the Student Union Executive Board where she organized a campus-wide event called Self-Help Day. “This experience taught me the importance of listening to students and advocating for a community where everyone feels supported, respected, and treated well,” she said in her candidate bio. 

Grimes, Thompson and Golin, the new Senators for the Class of 2027 and the Class of 2028, were write-in candidates for their positions, both of which had no formal candidates who had submitted bios.
