The Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships presented a chance for the Brandeis Indoor Track and Field team to prove its worth against top-tier college opponents from all over the Northeast. Although it may not have shown in the final team rankings, as the men finished 62nd and the women finished 47th out of a field of 100 teams, both teams failed to disappoint.

Several runners on the men's squad had strong performances, including Edward Colvin '14, who finished eighth in the 3000-meter run with a time of eight minutes, 36.39 seconds. In the 60-meter dash, Vincent Asante '14 finished 10th in a time of 7.01 seconds. Displaying his versatility on the raceway, Asante also finished 16th in the 200-meter run with a time of 22.88 seconds. In the high-jump, Jeffrey Maser '15 finished 13th with a height of 1.87 meters.

On the women's side, Victoria Sanford '14 ran a strong race in the 1000-meter run, placing in seventh with a time of 3:00.43. In the women's high jump, Lily Parenteau '12 also impressed the crowd, finishing in 17th place with a height of 1.54 meters.

The track squads also kept busy during the winter vacation, traveling to New York University for the University Athletic Association Championships on Feb. 26. Chris Brown '12 and Kate Warwick '12 stole the show, winning each of their individual races. These two finishes allowed the senior runners to compete at next week's National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III Championships at Grinnell College in Grinnell, Iowa. Both track squads placed seventh out of eight teams in the conference meet.

Brown came into the meet with high expectations, ranked top in the UAA and among the top five in Division III in the one-mile run. He did not disappoint, winning the race in 4:00.38, almost three seconds faster than the next challenger.

Brown stated he was very strategic in his approach to the race.

"It was a really tactical race," said Brown. "I waited until the last 100 meters and then burst ahead to take the lead."

Warwick competed in the 3000-meter run, and while winning her race, it proved to be a much closer affair than Brown's race. She edged her nearest rival by only three tenths of a second with a finishing time of 9:57.86.

Both runners earned their first All-UAA honor in indoor track and field.

However, Brown and Warwick had competition from two other runners, who also notched All-UAA performances. Asante was seconds short of winning his third career UAA sprint title. He finished second in the 60-meter dash with a time of 7.09 seconds, milliseconds behind his challenger.

With a finishing time of 8:32.56, Alex Kramer '13 just nearly missed winning his 3000-meter race. However, he still received his second All-UAA honor with his performance in the event.

Maser and Parenteau also came close to notching All-UAA honors in the high jump. Maser tied for fourth in the men's division with a height of 1.9 meters, while Parenteau also placed fourth in the women's competition with a height of 1.6 meters.

While most of the athletes on the indoor track team have concluded their seasons, Warwick and Brown still have one more chapter to write in their illustrious careers. They will get another shot at the NCAA Division III championships next weekend.

Warwick is extremely excited for another opportunity to compete in the upcoming event.

"I want to race the best I can," she said. "I am extremely excited that I will be going."

Brown also was very enthusiastic about his chances to win in Iowa this weekend.

"I think I am going in there with a chance to win," he said.

The indoor track and field season will end after this week's NCAA Championships.
