The Brandeis men's team fell behind in the early minutes in an exhibition game last Thursday at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, a Division I school, and never recovered. The Minutemen roared ahead to an 18-2 run, defeating Brandeis by a score of 83-60.Vytas Kriskus '12 led all scorers with 16 points, and Youri Dascy '14 and Tyrone Hughes '12 added 11 apiece for Brandeis. UMass freshman Daryl Traynham led the Minutemen with 15 points. UMass compiled 24 assists on 29 field goals.

Brandeis fought back into the game following UMass' huge run. The Judges cut the deficit to 27-17 with 5 minutes to go in the first half, but 10 points was as close as they would get as UMass took a 13 point lead into the half and never looked back.

Despite the loss, men's head coach Brian Meehan was impressed with how his squad played. "I was pleasantly surprised how well we were running and executing our offense, and we just weren't hitting," Meehan said.

Brandeis shot just 40 percent from the field for the game, and just 33 percent in the first half. UMass hit 51 percent of its shot attempts. The Judges were just 6-for-25 from 3-point range, while UMass shot an impressive 10-for-19 from beyond the arc. "We just couldn't hit open shots," Meehan said. "It's a big stadium with big open space in the background, and sometimes that can affect shooters."

"We played very physical against a bigger, stronger team, so that's a good game. I was pretty impressed with the stuff we did; it's still early," said Meehan.

The Judges open the season Nov. 16 at Lasell College.
