The men's and women's indoor track and field teams had a record day at the Terrier Invitational at Boston University Friday and Saturday. Facing stiff competition, Brandeis' participants ran well, and many broke or tied their personal bests. Coach John Evans thought both sqauds performed well at the meet.

"We had a great meet," Evans said. "Everyone ran really well."

Both squads had runners finishing high in almost every event in a very solid outing for both squads. For the men, Brian Foley '13 ran a personal best of 50.22 seconds in the 400-meter dash, finishing 32nd out of 97 overall. Fellow rookie Alex Kramer '13, who just returned from an injury, set a personal record in the 8,000-meter race with a time of 8:32.88. He finished 32nd out of 103 runners.

Devon Holgate '11 was pleased with Kramer's performance at the Invitational.

"He ran really well, and considering he just came back, it was definitely impressive," Holgate said.

But the strongest race for both the men and the women was the 1-mile race. For the men, Holgate, Ben Bray '11 and Marc Boutin '12 all broke personal records. Holgate finished with a time of 4:14.07 and ending up 25th overall out of 116 runners. Bray finished with a time of 4:16.63 and finished 32nd, and Boutin finished with a time of 4:21.41, placing 56th.

Holgate acknowledged the difficulty the race presented but highlighted the team's impressive times.

"The race was a bit rough, but not as rough as some other big meets I've raced," he said. "It's unusual for everyone to run so well on the same day, but it was impressive that we all ran really well."

Chris Brown '12 tied his personal best in the 1-mile with a 4:19.92 and placed 49th.

The mile was also a strong point on the women's side. Brandeis had three runners finish in the top 25.

"[The 1-mile] was a pretty rough race, a lot of pushing and shoving, but it was a good race," said Grayce Selig '11, who ran a 5:01.15 and finished sixth overall out of 96 competitors.

Erin Bisceglia '12 set a personal record with a time of 5:06.73 and finished in 19th placr.

Julia Alpaio '10 set a personal record in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:16.97.

The women were also very impressive in the distance medley, finishing second with a time of 12:03.9, and qualified provisionally for the Division III Nationals.

The four-person squad consisted of Selig, Beth Pisarik '12, Anifreed Sinjour '13 and Julia Alpaio '10.

Selig knew the team had to improve its time to qualify, but noted that they could have ran a faster time.

"We need to knock off a few more seconds to make it," said Selig. "It was a pretty good race, but we were hoping to run a bit faster," she added.

However, the women's team still looked impressive, and they got help from younger members of the squad as well. Sinjour finished 21st with a time of 1:00.43 in the 400-meter dash.

Overall, Selig thought the weekend was successful for both the men's and women's squads.

"Everyone's just knocking off times from their previous times: It was a really successful weekend," said Selig. "It's great for our team-everyone's running really well, and I think everyone will keep running faster."

Both squads will next compete at the Tufts Invitational Saturday.
