Jennifer Hudson, star of Dreamgirls and recent Oscar-nominated actress and singer, doesn't have any kind words about her origins on American Idol. Hudson told Essence magazine: "On American Idol, you go through this mental thing; you've got to get yourself back together. You've been abused, misled and brainwashed to believe whatever they want you to think."
Abused, misled and brainwashed by Idol's trio of judges? The judges are respectively: known and loved for hurling insults at would-be contestants (Simon), has nothing really useful to say (Randy) and has few brains of her own (Paula). This shouldn't come as a shock to anyone trying to get on the show.
Hudson further complained that Idol contestants were forced to "become a character" and that she was "the character in the turkey wrapping" in reference to an outfit she wore while competing on the show.
Once again, it's apparently inconceivable that a reality show would try to stuff its participants into easily loved/hated characters for a mass audience rather than letting them retain their natural nuances. Honestly, networks would never do that.
Josh Holloway, who plays Sawyer on ABC's Lost, apparently has rather large appetites when it comes to men. Fellow Lost actor Jorge Garcia, who plays the hefty Hurley, lights Holloway's fire, according to Elle magazine, which asked him which of his male costars he'd most like to sleep with. No doubt in response to the startled reaction of the interviewer, Holloway quickly explained, "At least he'd cuddle me good afterwards."
Other quirky sexual interests of Holloway's include Barbra Streisand and Sophia Loren. Despite their seeming lack of meat on the bones compared to Garcia, Holloway said, "I've fantasized about Barbra Streisand . and I saw Sophia Loren at a restaurant a couple years ago and I thought, 'Wow, I'd still go there.'"
Ever the romantic, his favorite pick-up line is "Wow, that is a beautiful dress. I saw one just like it at K-Mart."
His explanation: "See, you gotta make them think they're all that, and then pull the carpet out from under them."
We'll see how Babs reacts to Holloway's deal-sealing dialogue the next time they're both at an awards show.
