Union Senate
Dean of Arts and Sciences Adam Jaffe spoke to the senate this week about his plan to restructure several academic departments. He told the senate that his plan was necessary to redirect crucial financial resources.Senators asked Jaffe a number of questions. Union Vice President Erica Lemansky '05 asked how students could give their input to the matter, and Jaffe responded by saying student leaders would be contacted.
When Union President Mark Schlangel asked Jaffe what prompted him to propose the changes, Jaffe said that decisions were based on enrollment numbers and majors under-served in terms of curriculum.
The Surfing Club was chartered. Members of the club said that because the Atlantic Ocean is not far from the school, they saw the club as a good opportunity to teach people how to surf. They said they would need money for boards and wet suits.
The Brandeis Musicians Network was recognized. The club said that its purpose is to connect campus musicians by compiling information about them to be available on a Web site.
The senate also charted the Brandeis Memory club whose stated purpose is to train students for the National Memory Olympics.
The senate granted a money request to the Tzedek Hillel Hunger Banquet for $400.
