The women's soccer team is unbeatable-literally. The team is picking up right where last year's left off, kicking off the season with one of the best starts in the school's history at 7-0 . This week the squad added four more notches to the win column in four hard-played games.

Simmons was the first to fall prey to the unrelenting offense of the Judges on Sept. 15. The Sharks struck first after they scored on a badly defended corner kick, establishing a 1-0 lead just five minutes into the game.

"With fewer players in the midfield due to our new formation, it led to a breakaway and bobbled shot resulting in a corner kick," coach Denise Dallamora said. "Their goal was a wake-up call that led to us stepping up."

The Judges reacted quickly to the deficit, creating lots of opportunities but few quality shots. It wasn't until the 40th minute that Jess Druckman '06 found the back of the net. After a cross from Lizzie Bremner '08, the ball found the foot of Druckman who placed a perfect shot in the upper left corner from thirty yards out.

Druckman was only halfway done, as she tallied her second goal of the day, the eventual game-winner, midway through the second half with a similar chip over the goalie's head. Lisa Kaplin '07 then scored the third and final goal of the day for Brandeis after driving home an initial stop by the keeper on a shot from Brittany Douglass '07.

"I don't usually shoot that often, but I was given a couple of chances and took advantage of them," Druckman said.

The women returned after a short break to defeat Springfield College in similar fashion on Sept 19. This time, it was Brandeis that scored only minutes into the game when Melissa "Flash" Gordon '07 took business into her own hands and tallied an unassisted goal. Soon after, Kaplin struck again, giving the Judges a 2-0 advantage entering intermission.

Kaplin leads the team with seven goals this season, three more than she scored all of last year.

"It feels great to be so productive so early in the season," Kaplin said.

Springfield fought back in the second half with a goal of their own, but was countered by Bremner's first collegiate goal to bring the Judges to three on the day. All goals scored by the Judges were unassisted.

Goalkeeper Natasha Pieciak '06 was steady in net, tallying a season-high 9 saves. Pieciak has not allowed more than one goal in any game this season.

The Judges faced their toughest competition when they played Wellesley last Tuesday. The teams ended a hard-fought session of regulation in a draw, and were only five minutes into the overtime when Rachel Koffman '06 capitalized off of a short corner kick from senior co-captain Skylar Buchanan.

"Rachel scored an amazing goal to end the match. It was a really good win since Wellesley was one of our best competitions so far," Gordon said.

The Judges followed their most challenging game with an undemanding 4-0 victory over Lasell on Sunday to conclude their streak.

Despite playing an inferior team, Brandeis did not start to play down to their level and passed to feet while keeping the ball on the ground, the style of play they are most successful with.

Kaplin anchored the scoring, tallying the team's first and fourth goals. Her hustling and penetration resulted in goals numbers six and seven. Lauren Gregor re-entered the scoring ranks after a short hiatus with her third of the season, and Koffman kept going with her hot shooting and scored the Judges' third goal.

The Judges will try to extend their win streak on Tuesday when they take on Westfield State.
