Brandeis alum wins 'Weakest Link'
Wendi Adelson '01 won $2,000 on the syndicated version of "The Weakest Link" game show on an episode that aired Dec. 17. The show was taped in Los Angeles in July.Adelson said she attended a contestant search in Washington, D.C. After making the first-round cut, she played some practice games. A few days later, she received a call informing her that she was selected as a contestant.
On "The Weakest Link," contestants answer trivia questions. Each correct answer adds to a prize pool. At the end of each round, players vote off one contestant. The last remaining player -- Adelson in this case -- wins the prize pool.
"Our strategy was for the women to vote off the men," Adelson said. "I found out later that the men also had the same strategy. Except, the women made a pact to vote off the men in a specific order, and the men caved when one of the guys wasted a lot of the team's time on a few questions one round."
Adelson said she was more nervous about answering the questions correctly than appearing on television. The final, winning question asked her how many Articles of Confederation there were (The correct answer is 13).
Adelson is currently working toward a master's in International Relations at Cambridge University in England. She said she plans to use her "Weakest Link" winnings to help finance a university trip to Kosovo and Macedonia.
When asked if she has any advice for Brandeis students attempting to be game show contestants, she said, "There's no harm in trying; once you are on, just have a good time.
