On Monday, May 4, residents of North Quadrangle received an email from Area Coordinator Celia Henderson with the subject ”Polaris TV Damage.”

Henderson stated that the television screen “has been impaled.” This was not the first incident of vandalism in Polaris Lounge this year. During the fall 2025 semester, residents were alerted that billiard cues had been used to poke holes in the ceiling. During that time, Henderson sent out an email detailing the damages that had occurred and the need for strict action against it.

Initially, there was meant to be a fine of up to $6000 for the whole quad, divided between residents. However, this action was never carried out. Students at the time were outraged over the lack of accountability for those responsible for the damages. Another major issue that caused the frustration was the lack of surveillance cameras in and around the space.

Seven months after the first incident of vandalism, there are still no cameras in the space. This lack of action, students suggest, was the cause of the recent incident. In a May 4 written statement to The Justice, Reed Winkelmann ’29 stated “it’s really inconsiderate … how the [Polaris lounge] has been handled,” emphasising that it has been damaged for “the second time this year.” Winkelmann expressed his concern over the lack of accountability and the need for individuals to own up to their mistake.

Echoing similar concerns, David Zaslavsky ’29 stated "This is not the appropriate behavior of a college student,” in a May 4 written statement to The Justice.

Students have been frustrated with the lack of accountability in both these situations. The residents of North Quad await news of the evaluated cost and if there will be a fine to repair the damages.
