Women's Soccer: Team wins in crucial matches

The women's soccer team started last season 2-0 before limping to a 6-11-2 finish. Based on their two road victories over Clark University and the Massachusetts Institute of Technology last weekend, it does not look like the Judges will be on a similar trajectory. The Judges' 5-0 romp at Clark University on Saturday represented the culmination of a 24-hour span that also included a thrilling 1-0 victory against MIT last Friday. Goalie Michelle Savuto '15 stated that the team has improved its chemistry and that members are working diligently toward reaching their potential this season. "I think this year, our team chemistry is so positive and every person is taking it upon themselves to improve from last year," said Savuto, who played the second half of both games. "Our new saying in the locker room-'cross the line'-is exactly the kind of mentality that will push us beyond what we were able to do last year.

Women's Soccer: Judges revive hopes in 2012

While the women's soccer team disappointed with a 6-11-2 finish last season, this season's squad has the potential to be much brighter with an experienced group of players. The sophomore corps, including defenseman Alec Spivak '15, midfielder Sapir Edalati '15, who received considerable playing time in their first year, looks to carry the team.

Men's Soccer: Men look to protect ECAC title

While the men's soccer team was dismayed over its inability to qualify for the NCAA Division III Tournament last season, winning the Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship was a nice consolation prize. The Judges completed a 15-5-1 campaign by ending the season with a resounding 8-0 romp at home over Albertus Magnus College in the ECAC final. Despite last year's success, the squad still has quite a few holes to fill.

Athlete of the Month: Miller shines in final starts of college career

While one outing on the mound in a softball game is enough to tire the arms of most pitchers, starting pitcher Caroline Miller '12 proved to be unfazed by the task. On the last day of the ECAC Tournament on Sunday, May 13, Miller hurled the top-seeded Judges out of the consolation bracket and back into the championship with wins against Simmons College and Endicott College.

Club Sports: Quidditch team soars in annual tournament

Despite its magical nature, members of the Brandeis Quidditch team do not simply wave their wands to conjure up success. Founded two years ago by Harrison Goldspiel '13, Ingrid Schulte '13, Tali Smookler '13, and Hannah Pollack '13, Brandeis Quidditch - also known as the "Wizengamot" - is growing in popularity. Though they are not able to literally fly through the air on broomsticks, the game retains many of the authentic properties of the game made famous by J.K. Rowling's Harry Potter series.

Shooting for a cause: one basket at a time

While the season is officially over for the men's and women's basketball teams, the Red Auerbach Arena court was used one final time for basketball. Hoops for Haiti-in its third year-showcased a dramatic 43-42 overtime victory for the staff team, including Dean of Student Life Rick Sawyer, Associate Dean Maggie Balch, and Associate Dean Jamele Adams. While the outcome was a disappointment for the students, who sought to extend their winning streak over the staff, it did nothing to dampen their spirits.

Night of Stars

While Brandeis athletics give the University much reason to be excited about the present, the Hall of Fame induction last Saturday night allowed for some reflection on past accomplishments. Held at the Gosman Sports and Convocation Center, the 2012 induction to Brandeis' Sports Hall of Fame featured the initiation of six individuals.
