This week had a smattering of interesting pop culture and entertainment news, and I couldn’t pick just one topic. Here’s some of what’s been going on.

Taylor Swift’s new album, 1989, was released on Tuesday and quickly rose to No.1 on the iTunes’ Charts. The album features the successful single “Shake It Off,” and tracks like “Style,” “Wildest Dreams” and “Bad Blood” are already in the iTunes Top 10 singles.

Swift has now crossed over fully from country to pop, but the departure from her classic sound doesn’t seem to be hurting album sales.

According to Time magazine, her new album, 1989, is slated to be the top-selling album of the year. In fact, purchasing the album may be the only way fans can hear it, as it has not been released on Spotify or any other streaming services.

Swift has been vocal about her belief that music should not be free. Like her previous album, Red, it could be months before the album is available to stream.

The Princess Bride fans rejoice: star Cary Elwes, who played Wesley in the 1987 cult-classic fantasy film released a memoir this week titled As You Wish: Inconceivable Tales from the Making of The Princess Bride. The title refers to his character’s catch phrase, one of the many iconic expressions from the film.

The book looks at the making of the film and features interviews with Elwes’ co-stars including Robin Wright, Billy Crystal and Mandy Patinkin, as well as the film’s director, Rob Reiner.

Even if, like me, you’ve seen the film too many times to count and know all the lines, the behind-the-scenes stories are interesting and humorous, and it’s also a look at Elwes at the beginning of his movie career in his early twenties.

Superhero buffs had a lot to be excited about on Tuesday after Marvel Studios announced many of its upcoming projects, such as a two-part finale to its Avengers saga. The original 2012 film, featuring Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America and Thor, among other famous Marvel characters was a huge success, becoming the highest-grossing film that year as well as the 3rd highest film ever worldwide.

After revealing the final teaser trailer for this May’s sequel, Avengers: Age of Ultron, the studio announced “Phase 3” of its plans, including a third Captain America film titled Captain America: Civil War which is a sequel to this summer’s runaway hit The Winter Soldier, the return of Thor, and the studio’s first female-centered superhero movie, Captain Marvel.

The film schedule goes as far as 2018, so Marvel devotees will have enough to satisfy them for the next few years.

Finally, if you missed it, Daniel Radcliffe proved once again that he is no longer simply Harry Potter. The actor appeared on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon on Tuesday to promote his new film, Horns, but ended up performing a spot-on rendition of Blackalicious’ 1999 rap “Alphabet Aerobics” after Fallon asked about his unlikely talent. Radcliffe gets every word right and even has some swag.

YouTube it for your daily dose of entertainment.
