Commencement reactions continue

Student groups both opposing and supporting the selection of Israeli Ambassador to the United States Michael Oren as the main commencement speaker met separately with President Jehuda Reinharz during his office hours last Friday, following student protests against Oren in front of the Bernstein-Marcus Administration Center and at Wednesday's opening of the Leonard Bernstein Festival of the Creative Arts and outside of Bernstein Marcus.

Undergraduate Curriculum Committee tables Pass/Fail Plus

CLARIFICATION APPENDEDThe Faculty Senate supported the Student Union's Pass/Fail Plus proposal, but the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee has tabled discussion about final approval of the proposal until next year due to continued concerns about its implementation, Dean of Arts and Sciences and UCC chair Adam Jaffe said in an interview with the Justice.


Alumni pool to increase

It will take Brandeis another 25 years to have a pool of alumni comparable to that of older private universities that can rely on more alumni for fundraising, according to an initial report by the Faculty Development Advisory Committee that highlights both the successes and challenges of the Office of Development and Fundraising.


Changes proposed to undergraduate teaching assistant grading

The Committee for the Support of Teaching is considering a policy change that would officially allow undergraduate teaching assistants who receive academic credit for their roles as teaching assistants to grade assignments in a limited capacity, according to a proposal discussed by department chairs March 11.


IBS, Heller, Rabb to increase enrollment and add faculty

The International Business School, the Heller School for Social Policy and Management and the Rabb School for Continuing Studies all plan to raise their enrollments over the next five years in order to increase their revenue and direct contributions to the University's overall budget, the directors of the school said at last Thursday's faculty meeting.


Reinharz proposes creation of raise pool

University President Jehuda Reinharz intends to propose to the Board of Trustees the creation of a "raise pool" for faculty and staff making under $150,000 in base compensation, he announced at Thursday's special faculty-only meeting, according to a University press release.
