Phone outages throughout campus reported over weekend

Due to a software bug, student phones went down early Thursday morning. Despite the best efforts of the Information and Technology (ITS) staff, in addition to help from Cisco technicians, phone service was not restored until late Saturday evening.According to Associate CIO/Director of Information Technology Services Anna Tomecka, the problem originated when University technicians attempted to update the software on model 7912 phones, the type installed in all residence rooms."We updated the software for the 7912 phones in order to remedy involuntary repetitive server problems and instances of erroneous behavior of the phones," she said.According to Tomecka, the phones went down at approximately 6 a.m.


Community mourns death

The Brandeis community is mourning the loss of Mary Jagoda '05, who passed away last Sunday. Spending a weekend on Cape Cod, Mary and friend Sarah Aronoff, of Bethesda Md., went out on a kayaking trip, only to be reported missing by friends when the two girls did not return.


Cameras in Shapiro Campus Center after plasma TV theft

Following the recent theft of the plasma screen television from the Shapiro Campus Center, the University has beefed up security in the building."We took some preventative proactive measures for the property in the Shapiro Center," said Directory of Public Safety Ed Callahan.The University has taken a number of different steps to increase general security in the building as well as a number of steps to prevent repeat thefts."We installed seven closed-circuit TV cameras; they are very discrete half-moon cameras," said Callahan.
