Housing results released, not surprising to DCL

Housing selection officially ended on Tuesday, March 12, leaving the Department of Community Living to assess the results. Statistics are compiled each year after the housing process is completed, and general trends proved to be relatively applicable for upperclassmen housing specifically. This year, Ridgewood six-person apartments ran out at number 1035, while Ridgewood four-person apartments ran out at 1059 soon after, wrote Assistant Director for Operations and Off-Campus Housing Sarah Hogan-Crowley in an email to the Justice.

New director hired for procurement

As the first phase of a broad examination of Brandeis' business practices, called Brandeis BEST, the University will examine procurement of goods and services, announced Provost Steve Goldstein '78 and Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer Steve Manos in an email to the community last Monday. "In reviewing our [administrative processes], we want to implement practices that will not only get the job done but will also permit us to conserve resources for our strategic goals-ensuring that Brandeis is the best university that we can be," read the email.

Students attempt to anticipate housing

Housing selection ended last Tuesday, eliciting mixed reactions from both students who participated in and those who pulled out of the housing lottery due to the uncertainty of the process. Spaces in popular housing venues remained at unuaually high lottery numbers this year, possibly due to expectations that did not line up with housing results from previous years.

Univ honors three notable alumni

The University has announced that this year's Alumni Achievement Award recipients are University of Chicago President Robert Zimmer '68, music manager and record producer Jon Landau '68 and applied mathematics professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology Bonnie Berger '83. The honor, whose recipients are decided by the Office of Alumni Relations after discussion with University President Frederick Lawrence and members of his senior team, "recognizes alumni who have made distinguished and outstanding contributions to their professions or chosen fields of endeavor.

Zack Weaver '16 wins seat on Student Union

Zack Weaver '16 won a position on the Student Union after a close vote in the elections for Village Senator last Thursday after former Village Senator Ha Raum Cho '13 was removed from the Senate after violating Senate bylaws on attendance to regular Senate meetings. Following Cho's removal, the position of Village Senator had to be filled.

Grammy Awards entertain avid viewers

An average of 28.12 million viewers tuned into the 2013 Grammy Awards on Sunday to watch both the stellar performances and to see who would win in each of the 11 award categories presented at the show. Taylor Swift kicked off the show with a rather interesting performance of "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," a song that was surprisingly nominated for Record of the Year despite its bothersome repetition and whiny 15-year-old sound.

Students gather to discuss violence

The Heller School for Social Policy and Management Gender Working Group held an event on Feb. 7 in the Alumni Lounge of the Usdan Student Center as a part of 'Deis Impact. The event, titled "Gendered Violence is EVERYONE'S Problem," featured five panelists who broke out into five separate discussion groups based upon their areas of expertise.
