Deis gamers put the joy in joystick

"Are you lost?" someone asked me when I walked into a Friday night meeting of the Console Gamers X club.I glanced around at the four separate video game competitions occurring-one being projected onto a massive screen hanging down from the ceiling and the others on a television and two computer screens."I think I'm in the right place," I said, laughing, as a friend and I searched for a couple of chairs among the 20 students raptly involved in play.Although my presence was met with surprise, half of which I attribute to my gender and the other to my new face, once I sat down, everyone was welcoming and offered me the chance to play.


Forum addresses coffee sales

Approximately 30 people debated the merits of Fair Trade coffee Monday night in the Shapiro Multipurpose Room at a forum sponsored by the student advocacy group, the Fair Trade Brigade.

Feinberg begins funding review

In preparation for a push to reform the club financing system, Union President Jenny Feinberg '07 has met with about 30 club leaders and plans to meet with leaders from every one of the more than 200 campus clubs before the semester is out.Her efforts come in response to both student and administrative criticism of how the Student Activities Fee-the one percent of tuition, or about $1 million a year, which funds all student-run campus groups-is distributed."A lot [of clubs] are experiencing frustration about getting money from the Finance Board and not knowing where else to go for funds," she said.


Club liaison position to be reinvented

The Union Senate is reviving and reinventing its club liaison program to improve communication and cooperation between club members and the Union, former Class of 2008 Senator Noah Haber told the Justice."There's this big rift between the clubs and the Union and neither knows what the other is doing," he said.Haber said that the Union is currently undergoing a transformation in which it is trying to become a more open, participatory group.


Faculty takes stand on fair trade

The faculty voted to support the exclusive sale of fair trade coffee products on campus by an overwhelming majority of 54-3-7 at a faculty meeting on Thursday.Aramark's Director of Dining Services Barbara Laverdiere said she had not been notified of the faculty poll until the Justice contacted her.
