Purple Rain attracts students, security

After a semester of intensive planning and lobbying to administrators, the Student Union hosted Purple Rain, its replacement for the cancelled Modfest, Friday night on the Great Lawn.Between 400 and 500 students attended, Union Director of Communications Brian Paternostro '07 estimated based on bracelets distributed to attendees.


After hiatus, BTV to broadcast this week

After a two-month absence from the airwaves, BTV:65 will debut this week on Internet Protocol Television, the University's online television service, according to BTV President Ari Schnitzer '07.Schnitzer blamed the extended broadcasting hiatus partly on the shift from cable broadcasting to IPTV.


Bam! 'Deis Culinary Arts Club kicks it up a notch

Twenty aspiring cooks bustled around the spacious Usdan cafeteria kitchen, tending to fried lamb patties, chicken wonton soup, scalloped potatoes or iced chocolate brownies.Huddled around hot ovens and heavy metal pots with oven mitts or wooden spoons in hand, steam billowed in their faces as they waited, stirred and sampled.The other students and I selected our own ingredients, already laid out on the counter in front of us, and measured out amounts.We added two cups of mayonnaise, two cups of sour cream, a teaspoon each of dill and garlic powder and salt to taste.


More than just killing time

With all the toothbrushes tucked behind ears and army helmets and party hats worn to class, it would appear that Brandeis is in the midst of a civil war between the hygiene-obsessed and the birthday partiers.


Senate streamlines funding requests

The Student Union Senate passed a by-law last week creating the Financial Support Committee. Comprised of four senators and one Finance Board member, the committee is charged with allocating $5,000 worth of discretionary Union funding to clubs and students who request money for projects that aim to improve the community.The Union treasurer has traditionally allocated about $10,000 to the Senate discretionary fund, half of which half will now be allocated to the FSC.
