Award-winning Chinese novelist Ha Jin (Ph.D., 1993) returned to Brandeis last Tuesday to lecture on his newest book, War Trash, which chronicles the life of a fictional Chinese soldier in the Korean War.Jin, who studied English here, teaches fiction writing at Boston University.


Fahrenhype 9/11' challenges Moore

The Brandeis Republicans screened Fahrenhype 9/11, a movie whose stated purpose was to debunk popular filmmaker Michael Moore's documentary, Fahrenheit 9/11, in the multi-purpose room of the Shapiro Campus Center last Thursday.Robbie Schwartz '08, the development director of the Brandeis Republicans, said he thought that the turnout of approximately 20 students was good, considering that most of their fliers were torn down.The screening was followed by a discussion with Prof.


Grossman speaks on Israel-Dem. link

Steve Grossman, former head of the American-Israel Public Affairs Committee (AIPAC) and chair of the Democratic National Committee during the 1990s, delivered a speech titled "Democrats and Israel: An Historic Partnership, A Committed Future" on the Great Lawn last Thursday.About 40 students attended the event, which was sponsored by the Brandeis Democrats, Hillel and the Brandeis-Israel Public Affairs Committee, the campus chapter of AIPAC.Much of the speech was devoted to discussing presidential candidate John Kerry's position on the issue in Israel and the Middle East.Grossman, who has previously served as chairman of the board of trustees here, said he has known Kerry for 35 years.


Iraq's first female politician tells story

The Foundation for the Defense of Democracies and the Middle East Forum at Brandeis sponsored a discussion with Ahood Al-Fadhal, Iraq's first elected female government official, last Wednesday at the Rose Art Museum.
