Club advances to Final Four bracket

(11/21/16 10:53pm)

The men’s soccer team has hit its stride at the perfect time, winning both of its postseason matches this past weekend to earn a Final Four berth for the first time in over 30 years. Though the squad’s offensive shortcomings were the biggest storyline from the regular season, coach Mike Coven and his staff have made the necessary changes to get the Judges’ attack rolling.

Judges cross final finish line in championship meet

(11/21/16 10:48pm)

The past two weeks have been busy but successful for the men and women’s cross-country teams as their season concluded on Saturday.  Both the men and women sent one of their players to compete at the NCAA Division III National Championships in Louisville, Kentucky. For the women, Emily Bryson ’19 earned the second All-American honor of her career at Nationals, as she finished 24th overall. For the men, Ryan Stender ’18 just barely missed his first All-American award, finishing in 37th. The week before, the teams participated in the NCAA New England Regional Championships in Westfield, Massachusetts where the men finished 9th overall and the women 6th.  On the women’s side, Bryson improved immensely from the previous season, as she finished a commendable seven spots ahead of last year’s race. She came in a respectable 31st the year before and improved her time by an amazing 34 seconds with a time of 21:09.9. After the race, Bryson explained her mentality: “I just kept thinking of all my girls, my team; that’s all I thought about. I gave it everything.”

Women upset No. 5 ranked team in NCAAs

(11/14/16 10:14pm)

The women’s soccer advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament after two impressive victories this past weekend. On Sunday, the Judges defeated the No. 5 Lions of The College of New Jersey on the road during a tense 1-1 (4-2) penalty kick shootout. The team had the opportunity to play against the Lions of TCNJ after earning a beautiful 3-0 victory against Virginia Wesleyan College on Saturday.

Young talent leads the way in NFL first half

(11/14/16 10:04pm)

The first half of this year’s NFL season has come to an end and not in the way that many had expected.  While the New England Patriots have dominated the AFC East standings in routine fashion, despite a brief interlude of quarterback drama, the defending champions Denver Broncos sit in third place in the AFC West.  Furthermore, the reigning NFC champion Carolina Panthers currently sit at a dismal 3-5 overall record and are in dead last in the NFC South.

DeRozan’s efficiency takes league by storm

(11/14/16 10:04pm)

It’s popular to begin an article on the Toronto Raptors by saying they don’t get talked about a lot. As much as I would like to avoid what has become a cliché sentiment surrounding this team, the fact is, it’s true. Even with a run to the Eastern Conference Finals last season and some high profile Drake fandom, the Raptors still have flown under the radar in every season in recent basketball memory.

Men’s loss snaps long win streak

(11/07/16 9:57pm)

The men’s soccer team wrapped up their up-and-down season on Saturday with another scoreless loss, this one coming against New York University. The loss snaps the Judges’ incredible five-game winning streak, yet the team was able to secure a national playoff berth all the same. The Judges were on the fence going into the month, but with their sudden offensive reversal, the team has managed to slide into the National Collegiate Athletic Assocation playoff bracket. With a five game win streak in the bitter cold, the team was able to secure a resounding winning record for the reuglar season.

Runners blow past tough competition

(10/31/16 11:27pm)

The Judges concluded their competition for the month of October and ran in the University Athletic Association Championship at Emory University this Saturday. Both the men’s and women’s squads had spectacular performances. The women finished very strong, coming in fourth out of eight teams, identical to their 2015 championship performance, and the men finished third of eight, their best University Athletic Association championship rally since 2006. Both squads had astounding runs from their top runners, and now the Judges look to continue the momentum as they look ahead to two National Collegiate Athletic Association Division III meets for the month.

Offseason trades and acquisitions bring new level of hype as the basketball season commences

(10/31/16 9:35pm)

The 2016 to 2017 National Basketball Association season began last week, and with it come several exciting storylines that fans are eager to see play out between now and June. Can the Cleveland Cavaliers defend their title? Can Stephen Curry of the Golden State Warriors continue to perform at a historically impressive level of eliteness? However, there are three  notable storylines that every NBA fan should keep their eyes on as the season kicks in.

Swimming Squads earn high medals in competitive loss

(10/24/16 7:09pm)

The Brandeis swimming team has struggled to perform at its potential, losing four of its most recent meets, three of which were at the University of Rochester Invitational Friday through Saturday 10/22-23, where they lost to the University of Rochester twice and once to Division I Canisius College. Additionally, the week before, the Judges lost a tough meet to Wheaton College (Waltham MA) on Saturday Oct. 15, the men’s squad losing 157-131 and the women, 185-102. Despite disappointing team results, several Judges were able to individually swim magnificently. Tamir Zitelny ’20, in just his first week of competition, even managed to win the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Association Male Swimmer of the Week, an honorable award, especially for a rookie’s first week of play.
