Union, A-Board await Judiciary decision

Student Union President Hannah Brown ’19, Vice President Aaron Finkel ’20 and Chief of Staff Emma Russell ’19 presented four claims to the Union Judiciary on Jan. 15 regarding the Union’s status within the Union’s constitution in a case that will determine whether it is considered a club or governing body. Currently, the Union is considered a club and is therefore under the jurisdiction of the Allocations Board.



Fiery fencers get to the point this season

In the first match of the day, both teams took on host school Brown. The men’s team was led by their sabre squad in this match, who went 9–0, but losses by foil, 6–3, and epee, 8–1, meant the men dropped the match 14–13. The women’s foil also posted a dominant record versus Brown, 8–1, but 7–2 losses by the other weapons meant they were also defeated 15–12 by Brown. 













Investigating Sexual Violence on Campus

According to a 2015 study on sexual assault on college campuses by The National Sexual Violence Resource Center, more than 90 percent of sexual assault survivors on college campuses do not report their assault. Given recent reports in national newspapers on college assaults and video series like “The Hunting Ground” airing on primetime television, colleges and universities across the country have found themselves in the spotlight. Under mounting public pressure to act, university administrators have worked to address the issue of campus sexual violence in a variety of ways, and Brandeis is no different. 





Candidates compete for Student Union positions

In today’s Student Union election, 13 candidates compete for seven open seats on the Student Union Executive Board. This is the first of two rounds of spring elections, with students competing to fill the positions of Union president, vice president, secretary and treasurer, as well as representatives to the Board of Trustees, the Brandeis Sustainability Fund and the Undergraduate Curriculum Committee. The candidates spoke to the Justice about their prior experiences and the goals they would pursue if elected.
