At the non-scoring Tufts University Cupid Invitational, both the men’s and women’s track and field teams participated in several events, allowing each athlete to work individually on their skills without the pressure of needing to secure a win for the team. On the men's side, Brandeis performed well in the 200-meter dash and the 1000-meter run. On the women’s side, the top events were the 200-meter dash, the 400-meter dash and the high jump. Additionally, the University Athletic Association Athlete of the Week was awarded on Jan. 31 to Brandeis runner Emily Bryson ’19 for her superb performance in the mile run. Bryson currently holds the best time in the nation for the mile run with a time of 4:52.18 in the National College Athletic Association Division III.
The women’s tennis team opened up its second half of the season with a narrow 4-3 win over Bryant University.
In what will be called the greatest comeback in Super Bowl history, quarterback Tom Brady led the New England Patriots to an unforgettable victory over quarterback Matt Ryan and the Atlanta Falcons. As Brady hoisted the Lombardi trophy in his right hand for an NFL-record fifth time, he lifted his fourth Super Bowl MVP trophy in his left. Brady’s unprecedented comeback, powered by wide receiver Julian Edelman’s miraculous catch, was capped by a sudden-death overtime touchdown by James White.
The men’s and women’s fencing teams were in exciting action this past Sunday at the Eric Sollee Invitational, hosted by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass. The men’s side performed admirably, winning exactly half of their six matches against an elite variety of competition. The women’s team recorded an even more impressive result, claiming victories in four of the six matches.
The men’s basketball team lost two road conference games this weekend. On Sunday afternoon, the Judges fell to University Athletic Association foes the University of Rochester and Emory University on Friday evening.

The Brandeis men’s and women's swimming and diving teams participated in their final regular season meet on Saturday, Jan 28 against the Clark University Cougars in Worcester, MA. For the men, there were several first place finishers, leading them to a strong 188-96 win. On the women's side, the Judges didn't seem have enough in them to overtake Clark, as they lost 165-117. The teams now look ahead to their final meet of the season, the University Athletic Association championship at the University of Chicago on Feb 8.
The Judges had a busy weekend running at the Tufts Stampede Invitational at Tufts University on Saturday and the Terrier Classic at Boston University on Friday.
The Brandeis fencing teams were on the road this week as the women’s team competed at Wellesley College on Wednesday and both women’s and men’s teams made their way to Brown University on Saturday for their second Northeast Fencing Conference meet of the season. Both teams performed at a high level and move forward into the final stretch of the season with well-deserved confidence.

In the past three games, the women's basketball team beat the Case Western Reserve University Spartans at home 81-69, barely lost to the University of Chicago Marooners 55-62 in their first UAA road game of the season and fell to Washington University 70-54. The squad fell to 10-6 overall on the season after this week and 2-3 in the UAA. Brandeis was led by center Maria Jackson ’17, who scored a whopping 22 points against Case and 12 points along with a dominant nine rebounds against a tough Chicago team.
The men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams took their final stand at home on Saturday against Keene State College and Bridgewater State University. The teams honored their graduating seniors Edan Zitelny ’17, Eb Webber ’17 and Cameron Braz ’17 as they competed in their penultimate meet of the regular season.

Coach Mike Coven of the men’s soccer team announced his retirement from the soccer program after 44 years at the helm of the organization. Coven leaves behind a rich legacy of victory and achievements, winning 526 total games and receiving the 2002, 2012 and 2015 UAA Coach of the Year awards.
The women’s soccer team’s magical season came to a screeching halt last Friday evening at the hands of the Washington University in St. Louis Bears. The Judges were defeated 2-1 in the Final Four of the NCAA Tournament, the furthest Brandeis has ever advanced in the program’s history.
The men’s soccer team’s season ended on Friday afternoon in disappointing fashion as they fell to Calvin College in a nail-biting Final Four matchup. The Judges controlled much of the game, narrowly missing a handful of solid offensive opportunities, but ultimately lost to the Knights in Salem, Virginia.

The team beat the Salem State University Vikings and the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth Corsairs but lost by just two points against the undefeated Tufts University Jumbos. Through the beginning of the basketball season, the squad has shown that it is prepared to work hard and has the grit needed to succeed in its conference.
