The Los Angeles Dodgers win the 120th World Series

(11/05/24 11:00am)

The 120th Major League Baseball World Series concluded on Wednesday Oct. 30 with an impressive win for the Los Angeles Dodgers. Facing off against the New York Yankees, the Dodgers secured a commanding victory as the series concluded 4-1. The Dodgers dominated the first three games, winning the first  6-3 and the second and third 4-2. The Yankees bounced back in game four with a decisive 11-4 win, however, the Dodgers denied any real attempt for a comeback during an extremely tight game five, clinching the series with a score of 7-6.

After a loss to Emory, the Judges rally to defeat Rochester

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Resilience is the story of the Brandeis men’s soccer team this year. Fighting back from a slow start, the Judges have kept their heads above water against opponents in the University Athletics Association conference. This past weekend they displayed their typical tendency for a tenacious and unrelenting defense of their just barely winning record. Their first match against Emory University was less than exciting for the Judges in a match that left much to be desired from both teams, but their second showing versus the University of Rochester was a thrilling showdown between two teams vying for a winning conference record.

Recap of weeks seven and eight of the National Football League season

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Weeks seven and eight in the National Football League continued to showcase the league’s parity, reinvigorating the notion that no win is an easy one. As of week eight, the Kansas City Chiefs are the league’s only undefeated squad, boasting a 7-0 record. Additionally, every single team has won a game this season and the only teams that have not reached multiple victories are the Tennessee Titans and lowly Carolina Panthers. The road to playoff contention in the NFL is notoriously fierce and difficult, so it will be incredibly exciting to tune in for the remaining weeks of the regular season as teams jostle for playoff position.

Brandeis women's soccer team struggles against Emory and Rochester

(10/29/24 10:00am)

Instead of what could have been a pair of confidence boosting wins, it was a frustrating weekend for the Brandeis women’s soccer team. The double defeat came down to just two unlucky goals making the difference, as the Emory University Eagles and the University of Rochester Yellowjackets have established themselves as ascending powers in the National Collegiate Athletics Association Division III soccer scene late in the season. The Judges’ goalie, Rachel Ross MA ’25, played another career best game statistically on Friday, but the once red-hot and rising Judges have cooled off as the postseason approaches.

'With change comes opportunity': Coach Julie Pritchett discusses her vision for the upcoming basketball season

(10/29/24 10:00am)

It’s 8:30 a.m. and early in the school year — the first official meeting between the Brandeis University women’s basketball team and new head coach, Julie Pritchett, has just begun. The returning players on the roster had been part of the selection process after the retirement of former head coach Carol Simon earlier this year. Some had been in contact with well-wishes and congratulations after Pritchett’s hiring as the sixth women’s basketball coach in school history was finalized. But now, bright and early, it was Pritchett’s time to outline her vision for this team.

Chronicling weeks five and six of the National Football League season

(10/22/24 10:00am)

The National Football League season continues to progress, almost nearing its midway point with weeks five and six in the books — as well as week seven, which will be covered next week. Both weeks featured a variety of nail-biting matchups that pitted top teams against each other. However, there were a couple of games that resulted in blowouts so severe that some squads began to rethink their futures.

Inside the vibrant student-run dance community at Brandeis

(10/22/24 10:00am)

For a school of less than 4,000 undergraduate students, Brandeis holds an impressive array of diverse dance clubs. Even more impressive is students’ palpable devotion to strengthening the already commanding presence that dance has on the Brandeis campus and creating a space for this unique form of physical activity and art. In the words of Ballet Club Co-President Lilliana Aspromonte ’25, the ultimate “goal is to create an environment where everyone feels welcome and is able to dance.”

New York Liberty win overtime thriller, capture first championship title

(10/22/24 10:00am)

The Women's National Basketball Association season concluded this past  Sunday Oct. 21 when the New York Liberty defeated the Minnesota Lynx 67-62 in overtime to win the penultimate Game five of the WNBA finals. After losing in their last five trips to the finals, New York finally broke through to capture their first WNBA Championship in franchise history.

Brandeis men's and women's soccer recap: the Judges face conference rivals as the regular season comes to an end

(10/22/24 10:00am)

Following a two week break in sports coverage, there are a considerable amount of  highs and lows to capture for the Brandeis men’s and women’s soccer teams. Both faced University Athletic Association foes Carnegie Mellon, Washington University in St. Louis and the University of Chicago for the first time this season. The men's team  also faced the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.

Enchenté Daniel Ricciardo

(10/01/24 10:00am)

On Sept. 26, 2024 it was announced that Daniel Ricciardo would leave the RB Formula One Team immediately and would be replaced by Liam Lawson for the remainder of the season. Lawson previously stood in for Ricciardo when he suffered a broken hand after crashing during a practice in 2023. Lawson made his Formula 1 debut at Zandvoort, racing for RB for a total of five grand prix before Ricciardo returned. Ricciardo’s departure comes at a shaky time as there are only two unfilled seats left for the 2025 season and five current drivers without contracts. Although Ricciardo hasn’t officially announced his retirement, his inconsistent and low scoring performance this year makes his future in F1 uncertain.

Reflection on week four of the national football league season

(10/01/24 10:00am)

Week four of the National Football League season had many unexpected outcomes as it became abundantly clear that this parity-filled season will promise results that contradict preseason expectations. This week was filled with both blowouts and nail biters, continuing to show that you never know what will happen over the weekend with NFL football.

Tough weekend for Brandeis volleyball

(10/01/24 10:00am)

The Brandeis volleyball team faced its first test against fellow University Athletics Association teams this weekend. The round robin tournament was hosted by New York University at the John A. Paulson Center in Manhattan. The UAA conference is notoriously stacked with talent – with conference rivals Carnegie Mellon University, Case Western Reserve University, Emory University, New York University and the University of Washington-St. Louis qualifying for the National Collegiate Athletics Association tournament. The NYU Violets even made an impressive run to the NCAA semifinal where they lost to Juniata College, ending their season in the top four in the country. This season, the Emory Eagles are currently ranked seventh in the nation by the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Fellow UAA teams have also joined them in the AVCA Top 25: UWash is ranked eighth, NYU follows in 13th and Case Western sits at 21st.

Women’s National Basketball Association stars shine in record breaking season

(09/24/24 4:00am)

During the 2024 Women's National Basketball Association season, Las Vegas Aces center A’ja Wilson has put the finishing touches on what is likely her third career Most Valuable Player award with some eye-popping records: most points in a season, most points per game in a season and most rebounds in a season. She also leads the league in blocks. It’s a single-season performance unprecedented in WNBA history, but it is the crown jewel in what has been a long line of shattered records in a season highlighted by the leagues’ top-performing stars, new and old.
