Members of the Brandeis community gathered at the bottom of the Rabb Steps on Thursday to raise awareness of sexual violence on campus in the annual Take Back the Night march. Over 60 members of the Brandeis community marched through the center of campus to the Light of Reason as organizers called out statistics from the 2015 Campus Climate Survey on Sexual Misconduct.
Congressman Joseph P. Kennedy III spoke to Brandeis students about the complex relationship between the United States and Israel and discussed the countries’ shared governmental principles. The event, which took place Friday, was sponsored by the Brandeis Israel Public Affairs Committee and was moderated by Prof. Yehudah Mirsky (NEJS).

Robert Gallucci M.A. ’68, Ph.D. ’74 came to Brandeis on Thursday and gave a Q&A-style talk entitled “Love and Fury: Trump Takes on North Korea and Iran.” The event was moderated by Senior Executive Director of the Crown Center Prof. Gary Samore (POL).
After the 2016 presidential election, many people began to question the legitimacy of the American electoral system and some even asked if there was another way to elect a president and, according to Eric Maskin, the answer to the latter question is yes. As part of an April 2 colloquium hosted by the Biology and Neuroscience departments, Maskin, a guest speaker from Harvard University, spoke about election theory and public policy in a conversation with Prof. Michael Rosbash (BIOL). Maskin received the Nobel Prize in Economics in 2007 for his contributions in the area of mechanism design theory, one of the fastest developing fields in microeconomic research.

“Drag queens are people, too!” said Plane Jane, an established performer from the Boston area. She opened this year’s Triskelion’s Annual Drag Show with what seemed to be a wink to those old Rocky Horror Picture Show midnight screenings. Next to her, co-host and drag king Jayden Jamison welcomed the eager audience to an intergalactic room that looked nothing like Sherman Function Hall.

At 11:59 p.m. Tuesday March 19, polls will open for the first round of spring Student Union elections. Positions up for vote will be president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, junior representative to the Board of Trustees, representative to the Brandeis Sustainability Fund and junior representative to the Alumni Board. Last night, the candidates shared their perspectives on a variety of Brandeis-related subjects at the candidate debate led by current president Hannah Brown ’19. In addition to those who attended the debate in person, over 140 people watched the live stream, hosted on the Union’s Facebook page.

The Student Union held a special election to fill several open positions in the Senate and Judiciary on Thursday. Nancy Zhai ’22 won the open Senate position for the Class of 2022 in a four-way race. Zach Kern ’21 and Nakul Srinivas ’21 won seats for the Class of 2021 in an uncontested election, while Yuechen Ta ’21 won the Senate seat for International Students, also uncontested. Rachel Sterling ’21 and Jack Ranucci ’22 were elected Associate Justices of the Judiciary in a seven-way race for the two seats.
