The Justice elects new editor in chief for 2015-2016 year
Last Tuesday evening, the Justice elected Max Moran ’17 as its editor in chief for the 2015 to 2016 academic year.
The Justice’s editorial committee and staff members held an election where they questioned Moran about his time and involvement with the paper and his goals for his upcoming term as editor in chief of The Justice.
The staff took a closed ballot vote, and the editorial committee met immediately after the vote to cast their own closed ballot votes and confirm the results.
Moran was elected unanimously.
“My time at the Justice has been wonderful,” Moran said in an interview.
“It’s been one of the most important, one of the best things I’ve done—I would say the best thing I’ve done with my Brandeis career,” Moran stated.
“I’m really looking forward to working with the staff and putting out a great paper over the next year.”
Moran joined the Justice at the beginning of his first year at Brandeis as a writer for the Forum section.
He soon became the Forum section editor, a position which he held for a year before being voted up to deputy editor.
During his tenure as editor in chief, Moran hopes to reexamine current reporting practices and improve on seeveral processes.
“I want to consider new newsgathering techniques for the next year, to diversify some of the ways we do business. I want to be more proactive and reach out to people before events break in order to gather information,” Moran said in an interview.
“I want to increase our use of online polling so it can serve as a data-gathering resource, so we can incorporate that into our reporting.”
He also hopes to work to increase recruitment efforts for all sections of the newspaper for next semester.
Moran succeeds Rachel Hughes ’15 as editor in chief of the paper.
During Hughes’ tenure in the position, she led a committee of editors to create the Justice’s inaugural Code of Ethics.
Her other accomplishments include decreasing print circulation of the paper and overseeing the completion of a new website for the Justice.
