It could not have been a better Senior Day weekend for the volleyball team last Friday and Saturday.

The Judges won all three of their matches and dropped just one set in the Judges Classic hosted at Brandeis. They swept Westfield State College in the final match on Saturday and also defeated Keene State College 3-1 earlier that day. In the squad's first match of the tournament, they ousted Lassel College 3-0.

The Judges are 19-11 on the season and have the most wins since the 2008 squad, which finished 19-13.

"I think we just kind of set the tone right from the start and set the pace of the game," said coach Michelle Kim. "They didn't play all that great, and instead of playing down to their level, we raised our level to where it needed to be and kept it that way."

The win against Westfield State was the final home match for middle blockers Lauren Berens '13 and Becca Fischer '13, as well as for defensive specialist Susan Sun '13.

Berens led the squad with seven kills, and Fischer added four kills, two blocked shots and two block assists, while Sun recorded two kills. Each senior was honored and given flowers by their families before the match.

"I think in that last match, we really came together as a team and everyone just wanted to win and came and helped each other out," Berens said. "Everyone contributed in that game, and it was really good to see."

The Judges won 12 of the first 15 points in the first set and led 18-5 midway in the set against Westfield state. Although the Owls battled to cut the Judges' lead, they committed 10 errors in the set and fell by 13 points.

The second and third sets proved to be the same story for the Judges, who dominated play offensively and defensively for the rest of the match. The Owls led for only one point in the second set, and although Westfield opened the third set with a 5-1 lead, the Judges won the next seven points and did not trail for the remainder of the match.

The Judges finished the win against Westfield State with 26 kills and 16 errors, whereas the Owls had 13 kills and 28 errors.

"It was a great final [home] game for us seniors," Fischer said.

Earlier in the day, the Judges defeated Keene State, who came into the match 16-14, by scores of 25-20, 25-22, 18-25 and 25-21.

Although Kim was pleased with the win against the Keene State squad, who she said was going to be the toughest match for the Judges in the tournament, she noted the team's sporadic play over the course of the match.

"We were a little bit up and down and a little inconsistent, but we were able to pull it out, so that was a good win," she said.

Outside hitter Liz Hood '15 led the Judges with 18 kills. She also contributed five digs to the win. Berens recorded 10 winners, and setter Yael Einhorn '14 had 44 of the team's 50 assists.

The Judges had nine service aces, six of which came from outside hitter Si-Si Hensley '14. Einhorn contributed two aces, while Sun had the remaining service winner. In the first match of the Judges Classic on Friday, the Judges defeated Lasell College 25-21, 25-13 and 25-7.

The Judges recorded 48 kills compared to 16 errors in the win against their local rivals, who hit only 16 kills and committed 17 errors.

Hood had a team-high 11 kills, while middle blocker Carly Gutner-Davis '14 recorded a career-high 10 kills. Fischer also had nine kills and two blocked shots.

The Judges finish the regular season with the University Athletic Association Championships this weekend at Emory University. They face the University of Chicago to open the tournament on Friday, and they will then face rival squads depending on how the other matches fare.

"Hopefully, we'll get some good practices this week and get down to Atlanta and play our best," Kim said.

"I think we need to play like we did in this final match. We need to have fun and play as a team," said Fischer.
