The papers are signed, and after several long, drawn-out months, Tiger Woods' marriage has officially ended.Tiger and his wife, Elin Nordegren, finalized their divorce at Bay County Circuit Court in Panama City, Fla. on Monday, Aug. 23. The couple has been separated since news of Tiger's infidelity surfaced last year, and the rumors and speculation have finally been put to rest.
"We are sad that our marriage is over and we wish each other the very best for the future," they said in a joint statement. "While we are no longer married, we are the parents of two wonderful children and their happiness has been, and always will be, of paramount importance to both of us."
While the details of the divorce have not been released, various reports suggest that Elin could receive anywhere from $100 million to $500 million in assets. Though Elin signed a prenuptial agreement, it was renegotiated after the sex scandal that destroyed their marriage. Unsurprisingly, People reports that custody was the main issue for both.
Since the separation, Elin has gone about her usual life, moving on from being a stay-at-home mom to taking psychology classes at Rollins College. Tiger has returned to golf, but his game has gone downhill.
In her first major interview since Tiger's infidelities surfaced, Elin opened up to People about the marriage and where her life is going now. She told People that she and Tiger tried to work out their issues and repair their marriage, but a marriage "without trust and love" wasn't good for anyone. "I've been through hell," she said. "It's hard to think you have this life, and then all of a sudden-was it a lie? You're struggling because it wasn't real. But I survived." She didn't disclose the amount of the divorce settlement, saying only, "money can't buy happiness or put my family back together."
Despite rumors that stress has prompted her to return to her home country of Sweden, Elin is planning to remain in the U.S.
"Forgiveness takes time," she said. "It is the last step of the grieving process."
Tiger, who is currently playing a golf tournament in New Jersey, has yet to comment publically on the divorce.
As for Elin? She hasn't watched one minute of golf.
