After two road trips, the Brandeis baseball team returned home and faced Bridgewater State College in the team's home opener. Thanks in large part to the efforts of left fielder Chris Ferro '13, the Judges were able to rally from an early 4-0 deficit to win 10-9 at Stein Diamond last Thursday .Ferro went 4-4 with five runs batted in, three runs and a clutch two-run home run in the fourth inning that knotted the game at 4-4. He also had an RBI double and stole a base in the win.

Ferro has been a bright spot for the Judges in their first 10 games of the season. The rookie leads the team with a .407 batting average and 11 RBIs. He and catcher Artie Posch '10 lead the team with two home runs.

He credited his quick start to his coaches and teammates giving him the opportunity to produce.

"I'm just capitalizing on the situation," Ferro said. "I wasn't playing at the beginning of the season, but now I am, and I've been fortunate enough to have the opportunity to knock in a few runs."

The rookie has also succeeded despite balancing multiple positions and roles thus far. Ferro played left field for the game against Bridgewater State but has alternated playing as a starter and as a pinch hitter.

He even started at catcher against Case Western Reserve University on March 10 in place of Posch, who was used as the designated hitter.

Ferro also thinks that the team can build off of its road trips and its win against Bridgewater State.

"Playing [in Florida and Texas] definitely got us some more experience in terms of playing with the current team, but we definitely need to pick it up," he said. "I think that the win yesterday should spark us a little bit.
