They had a good run. Five years is quite a long time for a Hollywood couple, especially one surrounded with as much scandal and gossip as Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. But it looks like the drama finally became too much to handle, and the A-list couple have officially called it quits. . Just kidding.Rumors abounded this week that Pitt and Jolie, who have had about six trillion "breakups" since getting together in 2005, had officially ended things. On Jan. 24, News of the World reported that the two had "signed papers paving the way for a legal separation with joint custody of their six children." While reps for the actors declined to comment on the reason for the paperwork (oh, yes, that'll stop the tabloids from talking), they did release some of the documents' details: Pitt and Jolie will keep all the money they have earned (trust me, it's more than most of us can even dream about), and Pitt will have full access to their three biological children-Shiloh and the twins, Knox and Vivienne-as well as three adopted children: Maddox, from Cambodia; Zahara, from Ethiopia; and Pax, from Vietnam.
So this officially released information added to the long-swirling rumors of Brad's late-night meetings with his ex, Jennifer Aniston, Angelina's "sordid" lesbian affairs (her latest rumored consort is the lovely, if eccentric, Lady Gaga), Brad's frustration with Angelina's "mental issues, mood swings, and relapses into eating disorders," and Brad's recent purchase of a $1.1 million dollar home in Los Feliz (a "bachelor pad," according to People magazine) all seems to add up to one thing: a real-deal breakup.
Except for the part where it isn't. Hate to break this to everyone who's still holding a torch for the Aniston-Pitt reunion, but Brad and Angie aren't going their separate ways just yet.
On Wednesday, a rep for the couple told the NY Daily News that Brad and Angelina did visit a lawyer in LA-but only to protect their assets. "They aren't married, so they need to protect their children and property in case there's a riff in the future," said a source. "People hear 'legal papers' and assume it means a divorce, but it could mean exactly the opposite."
Sounds like a prenup to me. Could there be wedding bells for Hollywood's most high-profile couple?
