Five members of the crew team competed in last weekend's 44th annual Head of the Charles Regatta in the men's collegiate fours race, where they placed 25th out of 31 teams with a time of 18 minutes, 37.14 seconds, the best time Brandeis has posted on that particular course."The men's collegiate fours is actually a pretty tough division," coach Dave Deiuliis said. "Last year, Brandeis actually rode in men's club fours, and collegiate fours are . a step up in terms of competition. [Our team members] held their own out there, they absolutely looked like they belonged with that crowd, and they did a great job."

Four members of the boat were returning crew team members, including captain and coxswain Mark Grinberg '11, Mike Schwartz '09 in the stroke seat, Ben Whitlock '11 in the three seat and Nate Rosenblum '10 in the two seat. Jeremy Asch '12 joined them in the bow seat.

"They didn't have a whole lot of time to get it together and to sort of meld as a boat," Deiuliis said. "They actually managed to pull it together pretty fast, too."

Rosenblum said that he was especially happy with the team's performance given the conditions.

"The water conditions were really choppy at the beginning, so to come out doing as well as we did for Brandeis, despite the conditions, we were really happy about that," he said.

While the team only had one boat out at the regatta, other members of the crew team participated in events throughout the weekend. Last Friday, team members joined alumni, friends, family and supporters at a pasta dinner, and on Saturday they attended a christening of the boat used for the race and had a barbeque later that night.

"I really enjoyed seeing that many [supporters] out there and seeing how active it was," Rosenblum said.

Many crew team members came to cheer on their teammates during the race. Deiuliis praised the efforts of those rowers who came to support their teammates.

"We really turned out in pretty good numbers," Deiuliis said. "Pretty much everybody on the novice team was out there . yelling for Brandeis, so I'm just as proud of that effort as I am of what the men's four actually accomplished on the water.
