At the start of the season, it looked like the task of replacing former women's basketball captain and point guard Amanda Demartino '06 would fall completely on the shoulders of Kiersten Holgash '08. Holgash has averaged 4.0 points and a team-high 2.6 assists per game in 24 starts as point guard, but the 5'6" rookie point guard Jessica Chapin '10 has also helped fill Demartino's void with superior play off the bench.Chapin, the Judges' third-leading scorer at 7.9 points per game, has proven to be an offensive force for her team by scoring both in the paint and from beyond the arc. Her 29 three-pointers for the Judges came in second on the team, only behind 35 by leading-scorer Jaime Capra's '08.

"[Chapin] is a phenomenal shooter," center Caitlin Malcolm '07 said. "She penetrates well and takes it strong to the hoop. She's a lot more aggressive than other guards we've had in the past."

Still, Chapin knows that as a point guard, she has to think about much more than just scoring.

"My job is to control the game; everything runs through a point guard," Chapin said.

While playing that role, Chapin has shown the wisdom of a veteran when dealing with high-pressure situations during her rookie season, her teammates said.

"Coach Simon trusts Jess," Malcolm said. "She's willing to make important shots for us. She's not afraid to be in close games."

"I've never been one to get nervous and uptight," Chapin said. "I just try to stay calm when the pressure heightens.
