A source has reported that T.R. Knight, "George" of Grey's Anatomy, might be leaving the show. Castmate Isaiah Washington ("Burke") made snafu times two by first reportedly using a derogatory word for a gay man in October (Hint: In England you smoke these) and then uttering the same word on television during the Golden Globes while trying to deny having ever used it. "[Knight] was told not to say anything about the whole incident," said the insider. "He kept his word, but then the whole thing blew up again at the Golden Globes, and when he was asked about it, he basically called Isaiah a liar."
Knight, whose character on the show is in the habit of getting his heart broken and contracting syphillis, first refused to comment on the rumor and then said it was "completely, 1000 percent false" (through his spokeswoman). The network also denied the rumors.
Quite the drama, for a drama.
Meanwhile, Washington recently began attending counseling for his use of derogatory language.
Washington said in a prepared statement, "I regard this as a necessary step toward understanding why I did what I did and making sure it never happens again."
He took a break from filming to meet with gay-rights activists and to offer help in educating the public about the cruelty of anti-gay language.
Apparently Washington is taking the "Michael Richards approach" to a gaffe and seeking counseling. This takes the place of the recently patented strategy used by such endearing people as Mark Foley and Mel Gibson: using alcoholism to explain everything from anti-Semitism to trying to molest young boys.
Jermaine Jackson, brother to until-recently-at-large pop legend Michael Jackson, suggested that Michael convert to Islam.
"Michael, I feel, needs to become Muslim because I think it's a great protection for him from all the things that he's been attacked with, which are false," said Jermaine, who currently lives in Bahrain.
The more famous of the brothers, Michael, has made plans to move to Europe to revitalize his career and release a new album in 2007 and apparently gave the idea of conversion, "serious thought" while in Bahrain (according to Jermaine).
It's hard to tell what feelings a Muslim Michael would inspire in his fans. Somehow I doubt his habit of provocative dance moves and dangling babies over balconies will go over well in Islamic test groups.
